James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
So today was the press conference for DeGale Vs. Jack. Showtime was Tweeting about it all day, PBC was tweeting about it all do and so was Floyd Mayweather. Interestingly neither Eddie Hearn or Matchroom have mentioned it at all. They've been tweeting all day about all their other future fights and totally blanked Chunky.
Looks like they are parting company on bad terms. Wonder if this is because DeGale is moving to allegedly after this fight and B0xnati0n have picked up the rights to the fight?

Well spotted. Shame for degale, you would have thought his promoters job was to, uh, promote his fights.

I didn't think DeGale was being promoted by Hearn? Or am I out of date?
Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
He should be dual promoted.
Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
He joined Al Haymon & PBC ages ago.
Nothing to do with Matchroom.
He's fought Porky Medina this year and that's it I believe.

His promotional role was very much diluted with the Haymon signing, much like with Selby. In interviews it sounded like he became essentially a U.K. Advisor, reporting opportunities to Degales management and Haymon. As he also said in interviews this didn't exactly motivate him. It seems clear to me these are or will be the first to do some kind of deal with BT and 'jump ship.' Hearn has done numerous interviews saying he thinks these have been bad decisions long term as he could have made them PPV regulars, (assuming he means DeGale as a regular PPV main eventer and Selby an undercard regular and possibly eventually a PPV main event.)lefty wrote:He's still promoted by Hearn, mate. Degale ended up getting the Bute fight for allegedly $2 million and the Medina fight for I don't know what. Selby ended up getting the Arizona fight for allegedly $600k and then no other US opportunities have come up since hence he's fought twice on Matchroom bills.
It's impossible to tell if they had not signed with Haymon what they could have made once their profiles were built to the mainstream as there's been such a range of success/failure from Matchroom. Degale could have ended up as popular as Froch (who remember just before signing with Matchroom wasn't even fighting live on uk tv unless you count prime time.) Had he got to that level then the money would be more than what his alleged $2 million biggest purse was as what Froch is alleged to have earned with his PPV fights is way above that. Then again it could have ended up going like Josh Warrington and cocked right up.
As someone's said in another thread as long as AJ and enough others stay with Matchroom for a PPV every 4 months or so that sells well then I doubt they'll be going under. There's a lot more that needs to go right for Queensbury yet. For one they'll need to sort the issue of poor ticket sales and 'injuries.'

Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
The ticket sales will sort themselves out due to being much higher profile. It's not that long ago Matchroom were the ones with terrible ticket sales. I've been to the MEN when it was 3/4 empty and the Huddersfield sports centre, both Matchroom shows. Even today, 90% of shows Camp Eddie says are sold out are anything but.jameswilson wrote:His promotional role was very much diluted with the Haymon signing, much like with Selby. Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
Degale and Hearn looked to be on pretty good terms on their twitter exchange earlier this week.

Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
I've got this mental image of Hearn wearing a dark red turtle neck sweater with tears gently rolling down his eyes as 'I don't love you' by my chemical romance plays softly in the background.

Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
I'm sure in one of the lengthy Eddie Ifilm interviews he discusses that DeGale still has a fight contract for the next few fights signed and that he hopes that nothing messy will come of it.
Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
If Degale doesn't care for Hearn and has bolted off to a new arrangement, I don't see why Hearn would care anymore than previous handlers Hennessy & FW.
Maybe he does slightly due to Jim McDonnell being a family friend for many years, but otherwise don't see why.
It's business at the end of the day.

Re: James Degale and Eddie.... the bitter end?
this is the last fight of the deal Degale has with Matchroom so it will be shown on Sky Sports but the relationship with Degale and Hearn has been bad since eddie would put Degale v Jack on a PPV show as it doesn't sell well, im sure Warren will want to sign a deal with Degale in future same as he wil with any other high profile fighter from Uk and Ireland
