Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
Anyone seen McCarthy fight? Had a decent win last time out.
Re: Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
Askin is really improving, but I think McCarthy has too much for him.
Re: Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
I think Matty got a bit of stick for his holding against Ovill, hoping this wont be the case here.Good fight, both are improving.Got to be honest though I think McCarthy might beat him here.Really hope im wrong as id love for Matty to bring the British title to Blackpool in the future.

Re: Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
It was a good win but he tired a bit towards the end and JLD stole a few rounds if I remember.Taansend wrote:Anyone seen McCarthy fight? Had a decent win last time out.
Think Askin could get the win its a good matchup.
Re: Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
I train Matty along with my brother,so I obviously think Matty has the beating of McCarthy. He's had a great camp and has been sparring the likes of,Nathan gorman,Jordan Thompson,Pav Drago amongst others.
I think Matty wins this early.
Anyway,it's a top night of boxing.

McCarthy is a real talent. An excellent counter puncher.
As long as he can get Askin to lead off he will win handily imo

Jack Arnfield fighting on this bill as well, although he's not listed on boxrec schedule. Just a tick over fight to keep busy, bigger things in the pipeline for Jack I believe

Was massively surprised at how easily McCarthy dealt with JLD last time out - very impressed. On the basis of that, I can't see Askin giving him too many problems.

Im hoping bookies overprice McCarthy. He's gonna take this and I hope to win a few quid
Re: Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
Mccarthy looked good against Dickenson, Askin looks decent from what little Ive seen of him, but if fancy Mccarthy in this.
Should be a good fight, though.
Mccarthy's team are obviously confident to be putting him in with decent opposition so early, good for them.

McCarthy should have improved for the JLD fight as it was only his 8th fight (from memory, please don't shoot me down if wrong). If that's the case I think he will stop him, as I thought he looked exceptional in the earlier rounds.

A motivated McCarthy rips through him like a lion through a gazelle!
The only issue I have with Tommy is that he can appear lazy in there sometimes. I cant see that being an issue here.

I'm edging towards McCarthy on points. Looks a really good prospect.
Askin his toughest task to date though. Went close with Ovill who drew a world title fight not long after.

McCarthy is being outboxed comfortably. He looks really slow and cumbersome. Got dropped badly twice. Askin is well up on the cards after 7.

Askin gets it.
McCarthy is not going to get past British level.

Thought that was the best ive seen Askin box in his career tbh,was in good shape, his pace tonight and looked fresh late on aswell.well chuffed for him even if i did pick against him
McCarthy looked a completely different fighter tonight,i know hes quite patient but his punch output was just far too low and he didnt fight off that jab like he normally would.I know Askins stance was prob something they didnt expect too and this prob affected McCarthy's plans.

Most people went for McCarthy, tonight mate and going off previous that's understandable.
We know (in the gym) what matty is capable of and he showed some of that tonight.
Fair play to Tommy McCarthy,he did really well to comeback from those heavy knockdowns in the 4th.
It was matty night tonight and he deserves credit because everyone picked against him
Re: Matty Askin v Tomny McCarthy
Great esult for Askin I that felt after the Ovill fight this was a must win.
Also worth noting I watched his fight with Glowacki before the Glowacki fought Huck. He wasn't out of his depth in that fight at all. Was a crippling body shot from Glowacki which would fold any cruiser in half.
VIP do out their fights up on YouTube eventually so I'll probably catch this at some point. I liked the look of McCarthy v Dickinson and thought he was better than Kennedy ( Askins opponent for the British title)
