Amir Khan gives a boost to the homeless

Former World and Olympic champion boxer Amir Khan visited Leyland in his role as a Barnardo’s Ambassador,

Amir went to Barnardo’s Bay6 service in the town and spent time talking to staff and young people about their personal experiences, as well as getting involved in a cooking session.

Bay6 is a supported accommodation project for young single 16-25 year olds who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in the South Ribble area.

Currently, 17 young people are living within this service in the Leyland area.

Amir Khan said: “It’s a great honour to represent Barnardo’s as it marks its 150th year. The charity’s staff and volunteers make a real difference every day to the lives of so many vulnerable children that would otherwise have no one to support or stand up for them.”

Barnardo’s CEO, Javed Khan, said: “We're delighted that such a high profile sports figure and role model has chosen to work with Barnardo’s. I’m sure he will inspire young people and help spread the message that incredible things can happen when we believe in children.”

The passionate charity campaigner, who has set up the Amir Khan Foundation, will present Barnardo’s staff and volunteer awards next month to stand-out individuals to recognise the amazing contributions they’ve made over the last 12 months. The awards will take place at a special celebratory event at Westminster Cathedral on December 1.

The awards are a great way of recognising all the hard work of many people and I'm looking forward to lending my support to this event,” said Amir Khan.

Barnardo’s has more than 8,500 staff and more than 20,000 dedicated volunteers, without whom, many children and young people would not get the vital support they need each and every day. These awards acknowledge their hard work, compassion and tenacity to ensure the most disadvantaged children and young people throughout the UK have a brighter future.

FairPlay he gives up a lot of his time for charity.

I'm still amazed with charity work and Olympic achievement he still hasn't received a honour.

There's something a bit contrived about Khan and his charity work, I don't really get a lot of sincerity out of him in his interviews when he talks about these things. But each to their own, even if it's partially for his own PR, it's better than doing nothing like most celebs do.

Top dude, dishes it out, takes it on the chin, keeps moving forward in Rocky’s words and gets on with it. I don’t precisely see what financial benefits the multi-millionaire Khan would stand to gain from raising his profile, via charitable endeavours, which probably earn him less recognition than his profile as an A class fighter - a few paragraphs in the Carlisle Gazette over that flood fiasco? Come on!
Also - the scale of his operations (I’ve followed him on social media for a few months) see this guy up and down and backwards and forwards across the globe - whilst trying to keep in tip top shape. I don’t think ol’ Amir has too many days off tbh.
After he retires, I will be glad I made the effort to go and watch him a few times.

I've never been Khan's biggest fan but I feel Amir is legit in regards to his charity work. It could just be his religious faith motivating him to do this but whatever the case; he's doing a good thing so he deserves props for that. He does a shit ton of charity work aswell by all accounts.

I'm not the biggest fan of Khan although I do find most of his fights entertaining but hats off to him. He does seem to do a lot for charity and he has to be commended for that :TU:
