Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Very bad news. Collapsed in the dressing room and is apparently in a bad way. Lets hope he pulls through and no damage has been done.
This will hit the papers on Monday.
Channel 5 surely won't show boxing again after this and Blackwell.

He should have been pulled out in the mid to late rounds. I'm baffled why it was allowed to continue. Hope he pulls through.

Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
I remember watching Groves vs Johnson and I was kind of worried for Johnson. Groves didn't stop looking for hte KO and kept landing clubbing shots all night. The Murray fight was quite similar at times. The shots look like really heavy shots and Groves looks like he's putting 100% into them but they aren't concussive enough to bang the opponent out.
Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
He was staggering at several points in the fight and my mind went to the blackwell fight at several times.
The cut in 10 should have finished it.
Hope he pulls through

That's crap news to wake up to. I hope his condition has improved somewhat overnight but whatever the case may be in that sense; I wish him a full and hopefully relatively speedy recovery.

Stupid fecking corner should have saved their man, I was saying last night what a dumbass brave corner the poor bloke had, beat up to hell & they had not the slightest inclination to save him ...
Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Quite simply says it all, head shot after head shot, nothing coming back, no chance of winning, we need to get to somewhere where we can try and prevent this from happening, we won't know exactly when the punch/punches that possibly did this landed but he sure had no need to take the last three rounds of punishment that he took barely throwing a punch back of any meaning.tigermoth87 wrote:He should have been pulled out in the mid to late rounds. Thoughts are with Eddy and his family, Get well soon Eddy.

Hope he is fine. Agree above - his corner should have pulled him out as he had no chance of winning.

Just to echo everyone else's sentiments I was very surprised the corner didn't pull him out around the last quarter of the fight. Pointless him taking a sustained hammering and Groves was in an insurmountable lead and showed no signs of slowing down. Poor corner work and I hope Eddie makes a speedy recovery.

Also worrying that everyone on here was alarmed he'd made super middleweight yet those who matter weren't.

Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
I thought he needed pulling out around the 10th I think they left him in because he was close to the end of the fight and no fighter wants to pulled out. BUT I was surprised that with obviously no chance to do anything in the fight and looking so injured the fight wasn't stopped, having said that it may have been because groves didn't pilot in a sustained attack at any point.
It's a tough one to call.

Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
He should have been pulled at the end of the 10th I think, when his eye went from brusied to cut and shut and groves was landing with ease.
I hope he recovers in the mean time.

Easy to be wise after the event, but quite a few of us on here were saying it should be stopped around the 10th. Woodhall was saying the same on commentary.
Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
thats bad new , such a brave effort and echo that the corner should have pulled him out long before the end .
hope he pulls through .
hope he pulls through .

I doubt anyone outside the immediate camp is considered priority right now. I’d prefer to think no news is better than bad news. Bit ghoulish looking for updates if you ask me.lefty wrote:Has anyone heard any kind of update?

Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Strange comment. So are we not supposed to discuss it at all? Would be a bit odd considering most of us watched the fight yesterday and have a natural concern for the boxer involved?magwitch wrote:I doubt anyone outside the immediate camp is considered priority right now. Hows it ghoulish you idiot? You do come out with some nonsense.magwitch wrote:I doubt anyone outside the immediate camp is considered priority right now. Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Should have been stopped after the 8th round. He had absolutely nothing left. He was getting beaten up pretty bad over the last 4 rounds. My brother and I were saying after every round that his corner will be pulling him out. He was badly hurt, hardly moving and had no chance of winning.
Terry O'Connor should have stopped it. Although Gutknecht corner have more to answer too. Why send you man out for nothing but a beating?
Very brave and tough man Gutknecht. I really hope he makes a fully recovery.

Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Happy to explain. And your comment is fair, especially in light of TV viewing as you say. But mine is too. Rubberneckery and concern can look similar at first glance. In the above instance, my take was “this thread isn’t moving fast enough to keep me interested”.Boxerbeetle wrote:Strange comment. So are we not supposed to discuss it at all? And, to be clear, I don’t attach any ill-will to the commenter’s post. If things are a “bit quiet” for him then go for a wee walk or do a few press-ups...or something. Right now, our being kept up to speed is neither here nor there
I don’t pray, but I have nothing but kind thoughts for the lad and his family and close-ones. I wish him a full recovery, as we all do.
Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Why on earth didn't Terry O'Connor consult the Doctor on his eye?
Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
I’m sure he would have done if George Groves’ name was Joe Calzaghe.Exoddus wrote:
