Abraham fight - major schoolboy by the BBC

Post by jomothepure »

fornicate me, what a night last night. I'm about to call it a night as my eyes are filling up with yellow stuff now, but just saw this article on the BBC website.

Armenia's Arthur Abraham successfully defended his IBF middleweight crown against Australia's Shannon Taylor in Berlin on Saturday.

The fight was stopped in the seventh round with Abraham keeping up his unbeaten record. The 26-year-old, who lives in Germany, has now claimed 20 wins in 20 fights, 18 inside the distance.

Except it wasn't. Unless one of the boxrec editors saw the last 5 rounds and got the judges scores by was of a mirage, then the BBC has fucked up. As I say complete schoolboy and unprofessionalism.

I watched the fight on a live stream. Abraham waded in, sporadically loading up bombs and nothing else. Taylor kept a tight guard, circled... and did little else. Clearly the Aussie had been brought in to be knocked over in a few rounds, had read the script and came to survive. I thought Abraham would do it in the third with body shots, and body shots were all he did for 12 rounds long, but Taylor sucked it up and played the opponent's role well. Not really a must-see fight to watch for fans of either man. Let's hope that BBC 'reporter' gets fired immediately.
