Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
To be honest- I found quite a lot of the rounds hard to score. I thought Kovalev gassed quite badly the second half of the fight but at the same time I didn't think Ward's work was that great. They need to do it again.clopixolacuphase wrote:Who did you think won, Lefty?lefty wrote:I think i misheard Ward there. Did he say that's the first time he hit the Canvas?

This. How many times did Kovalev hold and push Ward to the ropes.Realistic wrote:FFS Kov was holding so much Paulie went on to say how he has been grappling lessonsNaandrew wrote:I think Kov can win clearer with a better ref.

paulie talks shite. ward is notorious for grappling. paulie needs to take adam smiths 1 inch donger out of his mouthRealistic wrote:FFS Kov was holding so much Paulie went on to say how he has been grappling lessonsNaandrew wrote:I think Kov can win clearer with a better ref.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
I had it a draw but there were rounds that were too close to call. Can't complain about result although I agree with Kovalev's complaint about the judges being from the USA- what other sport would you go to a foreign country and have a locals referee and judge the outcome? Even if they did/do the job fairly they make accusations of unfairness easy and justifiable.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
They were both holding.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
i cant see how ppl think Kov won this wide?It was a close fight!

Three Russian judges and the decision is different.

I can see Ward by 1 round - at the most - but THREE rounds!!!
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Hmmm it seemed to me he wa splaying Ward's game who was looking to clinch and tie up, can't criticise Kov for grappling him when Ward was looking to land sly shots anemic tie him up, his body work coming and and breaking the clinches were what did it for me. I couldn't believe Ward was the one who didn't tire, the body work did that.keithmoonhangover wrote:This. Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Camp Eddie had Ward edging it. That's enough for me
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
He'd have won it tonight with neutral judges, not sure how they're allowed to have three Yank judges when everywhere else in the world they rightly insist on neutral officials.Naandrew wrote:I think Kov can win clearer with a better ref.

Thought Kovalev won it close but clear personally, not a robbery but I find it hard to see how anyone could score 7 of those rounds to Ward, a lot of his work involved spoiling up close and in close rounds with few clean punches landing, they have to go to Kovalev IMO because of the huge difference in power in his favour.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
I thought Ward took it, but probably because Kov won the clearest rounds. A lot of the rest were arguable I suppose.LancashireLoyal wrote:i cant see how ppl think Kov won this wide?It was a close fight!

Was the gvozdyk chilemba fight any good ?
May go back and watch it.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
I'll have to watch it sober but I don't think Ward did enough to win: it was close but I think Kovalev won by a couple of rounds plus the KD.lefty wrote:To be honest- I found quite a lot of the rounds hard to score. It was interesting but it wasn't fight of the year. There was a lot of holding, it was no classic. I enjoyed it, but I figured Ward would get the benefit of the doubt.
Wrong guy won for me, though.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Yeah Ward was responsible for the initial holding for me, a major part of his style involves being dirty up close to get shots off, Kovalev just did a good job of tying him up when Ward tried to get up close.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:Hmmm it seemed to me he wa splaying Ward's game who was looking to clinch and tie up, can't criticise Kov for grappling him when Ward was looking to land sly shots anemic tie him up, his body work coming and and breaking the clinches were what did it for me. Kov didn't look too comfortable down the stretch. Wards body shots slowed him down.crusader wrote:Thought Kov edged it

I don't think anyone had Ward down to stop him emphatically, more of a wearing him down sort of effort.
I don't think Kov is made of iron in traditional Drago stereotype style.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Sky were terrible tonight - so biased towards Ward, calling every shot he landed whilst largely ignoring Kovalev's punches. If I could be arsed, I would count the number of times Sky called Ward's shots compared to Kov and then compare to the punchstats. I reckon they were biased about 4-1 Ward, even though Kov on punchstats outscored Andre by 126-106 (I know punchstats are not that great.)
Smith was his usual growling fool self without any analysis of value and talking way too much. He really knows very little about boxing, just growls rubbish.
I usually like Paulie but I think he was swayed by Smith's nonsense.
I had Kovalev winning by 2 rounds, so not the worst decision ever, but one of the worst commentatories.

People are also forgetting Perez was robbed earlier in the night too. In fact his robbery was far more blatant than Kov vs Ward.
2 robberies in one night. When shit like this and the scoring for McDonnell vs Solis (I gave it McDonnell by a round but wasn't there one card that was 117-112?) it makes me lose interest in boxing.
