Empty seats, low ppv buys, guys getting robbed... Boxing is a dying sport.

Post by Andrew Kearney »

Did anyone notice the fact there seemed to be a good amount of empty seats at the fight last night (Im going to say about 1/3 of the arena was empty)? Combined salary of the supposed top 2 fighters p4p is only a mere 7 million USD $ (peanuts compared to other sports). PPV numbers haven't been released but they are expected as being very low to the point you wonder if promoters are even breaking even (in fact Andre Ward's promoter Roc Nation likely lost money on this promotion). Then to top it all off the judging is horrible Perez wins every round, judges gift the house fighter Hooker a draw, Kovalev drops and outlands Ward, judges gift it to house fighter Ward.

Lol this crap is legitimately pathetic. Boxing is a dying sport. Fight between the 2 best can't even fill a small Vegas arena. The money amounts are laughable. Judging was ridiculously bad. I guess thats why no one cares or follows this sport anymore.

Crap sport to be honest and last night just underlined that nobody cares anymore. Pacquiao is the last remaining star and there won't be anyone to replace him. Andre Ward in the paat has been unable to draw 5,000 fans to his fights in Oakland and Ward would struggle to do 10,000 PPV buys in the future.

No one cares or follows boxing anymore and I have to say I understand why. Last night was crap. This sport is hurting big time and you can see why. Lots of longtime fans have walked away and there are no new fans.

Empty seats at last nights fight. Lmao @ boxing, what a sh1t sport. It is sad when the top 2 fighters have empty seats when they fight, low ppv numbers. Because ultimately no one watches boxing anymore and no one cares.

I'll give you a better title.

I can't score fights. I'm very mad that Kovalev lost. I can't appreciate a great even fight.

Also, you are a racist if no one tells you.

Great fight? That just shows how poor the sport is now.

I didn't notice that, but yep as I just said this crap - and it is continuous in boxing now, worse than ever, much worse - crooked judges, crooked and incompetent refs, absurd match making - just accelerates the departure of fans from boxing to UFC.

I live in Canada and its interesting to note that in every major Canadian city, you won't find bars that actually show boxing anymore. They're gone. They don't exist anymore. They show UFC or just out of combat sports altogether.

Nobody fcuking cares about boxing anymore. Its lost all credibility as a sport, every weekend guys are getting robbed by crooked judges, the fights are sh1t and ultimately nobody fcuking cares.

Ward in the past has struggled to get more than 5,000 fans to his fights in Oakland. And he's supposed to be p4p #1? Geez he wont be able to sell 10,000 PPVs.

This sport is legitimately dead at this point. Gone are the glory days of Klitschko, Pacquiao, Mayweather.

Nobody shows boxing anymore because frankly nobody fcuking cares. I know Ive walked away from boxing. Just no credibility to the sport whatsoever.

FYI, the UFC uses the same judges and has their share of bullshit decisions too. Though they usually don't penalize the 'loser' as far as their next fight. What they do miles better than boxing is give you your money's worth. Ward/kovalev/Stevenson/beterbiev, etc.. would have all fought two years ago

Ok Andrew no offense but let's put you straight here my friend.
I'm here in Las Vegas and will be for the Lomachenko v Walters fight too so allow me to bring some clarity and honesty to this thread.
The arena was not full especially on the upper decks, the $1000 seats were almost full to capacity in fact you can go and ask Deontay Wilder what row he was sitting in ... Row K or L right in the middle of the row on the floor with a big bodyguard in a long sleeve white top sitting in the row behind him.
It's Evander you're talking to here mate I know because I was there.
The $500 seats were almost full too.
The empty seats were mainly on the upper deck.
I couldn't see the entire arena because of the screen above the ring blocked part of the seating area so I can't comment on things I did not see.
Dan Rafael was sitting close to the ring I saw him, perhaps 5,6,7 rows back.
Anything else you need to know I'm your guy.

Wasn't there over 13,000? Similar to Canelo-Khan? What is the capacity of the arena?

Even fight???? That was a FLAT OUT ROBBERY!!! ... It's idiots like you who let so many trash decisions continue... It seems that Cubans and Eastern Europeans are the most frequent targets of corrupt judges... Some of it is due to our poor political relationships with Cuba and Russia.. Indeed, many fair minded fans give up on the sport when they witness frequent and flagrant robberies such as this.. It's not worth watching when you see one of the very few interesting and dramatic fights happen between 2 very well matched great fighters -- the best fight of the year -- and then the whole evening is destroyed by another corrupt decision.

I expected it to be a low selling PPV all along. Outside of hardcore Fight fans these guys aren't big names.

There was nothing corrupt about the decision. Quit foaming at the mouth. Krusher lost. He will get another chance.

As long as there's money to be made, boxing will never die, but it's thinning out like all forms of entertainment. Social media is the number one sport, and it's free like PBC with the same soul sucking entity at the helm.
