If Ward-Kovalev II is too close fight....

Post by ValMar »

What do you expect of judges in the rematch if it is too close ?
Supposing the rematch will take place in USA, with the American ref and judges.

You don't have to assume where the rematch will take place. It'll be in Oakland, California, USA or it'll never happen at all. You can take that to the bank.

Kovalev can win a decision. It just apparently needs to be well beyond clear.

I think that if it is close it will go to Krusher, setting up the third fight.

If the fight happens, if it is close, then Ward will get the result again, the venue is supposed to be neutral I would guess, since there were 3 Americans judging it last time, that neutral judges isn't on the cards. Kovalev can only get a decision if he drops Ward every 2-3 rounds and pastes him for the last 3 minutes. Otherwise the "technical" performance of Ward will be rewarded by the judges.

Kovalev will need to stop Ward or drop him at least 3 times to get a W.

What is the problem with American judges when both boxers are living in the U.S., and are citizens of the U.S. In addition to that, Kovalev and Ward have fought their entire career or 99% as pros in the United States. Should someone like Berto or Stiverne have a ref and judges from Haiti to get a fair shake?

Quit whining about the damn result already. Look forward to the rematch, and if possible hold off on whining until the next result is in. Mods should lock and ban all threads with the name Ward or Kovalev until a month before their next fight. Wishful thinking.

Sounds like a thief telling his victims that he already sold their stuff and spent the money, so they should stop whining.

LOL Right... These Ward partisans are in denial. Ward is a Russian citizen, not an American citizen. He got screwed royally.

Haitians, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans generally get a better deal with US Boxing judges than Cubans and Eastern Europeans.. I'm not sure why that is, but I think its because they're from "communist" countries in a lot of people's minds.. Remember the Rocky films??? They were an abomination the way they depicted Russian boxers.. Now Russian-American relations are at a miserable low ebb because of Crimea, Ukraine and stiff NATO country sanctions.

Ward took it from Krusher, not the judges.

Tanzio, what do you think about Ward and Kovalev (as boxers, of course) neglecting their recent match ?

Judges will give is to Kovalev. It will be much like Lewis - Holyfield and Mayweather - Castillo rematches. I thought Holyfield edged Lewis in the rematch or at least deserved the draw, but Lewis got the nod on judges cards because he was robbed in the first fight. The same with Mayweather - Castillo. I think Castillo deserved at leat a draw in the first fight, but Mayweather not only won, but won by ridiculously big difference on judges scorecards. In the rematch though judges scored the fight much closer than it really was.
