I had dinner with him last June and he only eats heathy food, doesn't drink. He got up early for a 5 mile run. The dude is discipline and in great shape for his age. I do hope this is it for him. At the end of the day, boxing is a young mans game. The older boxers get, the less they are likely to engage in toe to toe action and become more defensive.

Always been a fan of Hopkins. I think he is one of the top 25 ATG. Top 5 160 ATG. It's a credit to him that he remains in great shape clean living etc.

However:

Hopkins at 52 should retire. The brain can only take so many punches.

I hope Hopkins is competitive with Smith but does not win.
Hopkins is not going to retire on a win, if he beats Smith he will convince himself he still has it and will want another fight.

I have a lot of respect for Hopkins, and I have no doubt he'll give Smith some trouble. I think Smith can beat him though. The main thing Smith and his team need to be focusing on is to forget about big power punches. Hopkins has never been stopped, and has great defense so the best approach to beating him I think would be to bombard him with several light punches and just try to outhustle him. Hopkins has always had great stamina, but logically speaking the stamina has got to be a lot less than it once was, and Smith should be able to outwork him. He just needs to make sure not to punch himself out foolishly going for the KO on iron chinned B-Hop.

Hopkins is going to school this kid. Wide UD. Smith is too one dimensional. Hopkins will find him easy to hit and then tie him up all night. Fonfara was hitting him with everything he threw and got overly aggressive and walked into a shot. Hopkins will
never overcommit. Why do you think Hopkins chose this fight? He knows it's a tailor made opponent.

Yeh this is possible, but you're assuming no further decline.

All the same tricks will be present. His workrate has been almost null for years. He wins fights landing 7 punches a round. Basically every punch he throws against this guy, will connect. Smith has fought absolute trash. He was getting TAGGED by Fonfara and looked ready to go before literally closing his eyes and landing a Hail Mary. Power only takes you so far against a wizard like Hopkins. If you don't know how to box effectively he will nullify you. If you come straight ahead and don't know how to cut off the ring effectively, he will nullify you. If he's able to land that straight lead right all night, he will nullify you.
