errors on record of Bonnie Canino
errors on record of Bonnie Canino
I sent BoxRec an email regarding this because I had to attach her Fight Fax record as proof. Canino’s fight against Cora Webber is shown on BoxRec as being a six-round fight that Canino won by split decision. Fight Fax which is boxing’s official records keeper shows the result of that fight as being a win by unanimous decision for Canino in a ten-round fight. Fight Fax also shows the fight as being for the IFBA title. Therefore, this was Canino’s first defense of the IFBA title. There is also a minor error in another fight of Canino. BoxRec shows the result of her fight against Gina Davis as being a win by TKO in the first round. Fight Fax shows the result as being a win by KO in the first round. Please correct these errors and you can see the email I sent to BoxRec's gmail for the Fight Fax record attached to the email.

Re: errors on record of Bonnie Canino
FightFax is not the official record-keeper in boxing - might be so in some U.S. states but not globally anyway.
And even is they were "official", their records still have their share of mistakes... BoxRec makes an effort to record CORRECT results, not to follow someone else's mistakes. Send us 1st-hand information proving that Canino-Webber was fought over 10 rounds and that Davis-girl was actually counted out - we will make the corrections then.
Just don't use FightFax as gospel. Instead, get a copy of their record for Carlos DeLeon (ex-cruiser champ). Do they still have him beating Otis Gordon in 1977 as they had for decades??? Guess what, wrong victim and proven so

Re: errors on record of Bonnie Canino
Fight Fax is the official record keeper for boxing and this is stated on their website. This is a widely known fact because they only accept results provided by the boxing commissions. How am I supposed to get first-hand information? Is there absolute proof that Canino's record is correct on BoxRec or anyone else's record for that matter? I know that BoxRec is usually reliable, but it is not free of errors. How are records corrected on BoxRec? Do they have to find a newspaper article from that time period or get a notarized statement from the boxer(s)? This is ridiculous.

It is a widely known fact that very few boxing commissions OUTSIDE USA even work with FightFax anymore. They claim that they only accept results from commissions but they have constantly failed to recognise boxers correctly, added results to wrong records (I'm mostly speaking about boxers without federal ID number) and so on...
No, FightFax-record alone is not a reliable source.

Re: errors on record of Bonnie Canino
However, thanks for raising this issue!
After little research, I was able to find a contemporary fight report of the show (http://www.womenboxing.com/biog/fightre ... 4_ifba.htm).
This is acceptable proof.

Re: errors on record of Bonnie Canino
Thank you. I couldn't find the article on WBAN, but I'm glad you did. I did not know about any errors of Fight Fax. I read on this forum that BoxRec is an official registry and I did an interview with Canino. I had to add a correction to the article because of the error on her BoxRec record. I told Canino that I sent BoxRec the Fight Fax record. I did not know that Fight Fax got the result wrong. They stated it was a win by unanimous decision, but it was really a split decision win according to the WBAN article. I guess Fight Fax was wrong. At least it will show though that it was a IFBA title fight for 10 rounds.
