He's always been very bad. It's a cross that British boxing fans have had to bear for a very long time. The day he retires myself and my mates will be having a few pints thats for sure

I know what you are saying, hype helps to build the sport to a wider audience. But you can put on genuine fights and hype them. They will have a better chance of living up to the hype which helps grow the sport in a more sustainable way

A bit unfair to criticise Smith for getting into boxing due to fan man. Everyone has to start somewhere, doesn't matter how.boxingknockout wrote:Good post - I only take issue with that statement. He doesn't give a crap about boxing and knows bugger all about it. Just listen to his commentary, no analysis of any value. You're a fvcking disgrace mate. I've no doubt you love the game but you do it a huge disservice by pretending that the late pantomime showing of Haye v Bellew is a serious fight. Haye is years past his best and Bellew is a plodding also ran at world level. Your comment that Bellew is " one of the biggest punchers in world boxing" is risible.
Sky's link up with Matchroom has seen the amount of absurd hyperbole around fights and fighters grow exponentially to a barely tolerable level for any fan with even a modicum of knowledge but if the initial offerings are any indicator the build up to this fight will hit a new nadir. The paying public aren't as stupid as Sky would like to think. Every time a non event fight involving Joshua is made PPV and presented to the audience as a legitimate world championship level fight boxing's reputation nosedives. Every time you interview Eddie Hearn after one of his stable has fought and he claims we've just seen a world class operator in action when we haven't and you don't pull him up on this you're doing boxing a disservice. Every time an elaborately staged and wholly manufactured "beef" between fighters is reported as genuine enmity, boxing is the loser.
I don't blame Hearn - his job is to earn money for himself and his fighters. Your job is to report news to boxing fans and offer informative, intelligent analysis and opinions on boxing matters to your paying audience and you don't.
Where's your journalistic integrity mate ?
He went to theatre school - to become an actor or presenter and landed the Sky job through contacts and friends. The fact that he himself says he got into boxing though 'fan man' shows he's not into boxing and doesn't understand it.
He's a fraud as a boxing man and his acolyte Ed Robinson is almost as bad. Robinson is dreadful in front of the camera, and whilst a genuine boxing man, has become a Sky goblin. He teamed up with Smith to oust the former Sky boxing chief and was the grass who went to HR to complain in order to get a better position than an editor or end of fight interviewer. Both are snakes.
Sky boxing is nothing but a money making machine where all employees sell their souls to Murdoch.
How do I know this? I used to do a lot of freelance work for Sky and the politics were like Animal Farm.....

Re: Sky's Adam Smith
Smith isn't to blame, he's doing the job as asked of him. His employer has a share of the blame though along with the promoter
Re: Sky's Adam Smith
To be fair though- just because it was the fan man incident that piqued his initial interest in the sport; that doesn't mean he isn't a true boxing fan now. Obviously he's an executive for sky so his job as head of boxing for sky is to maximise revenues for the boxing department.boxingknockout wrote:That's hardly the main point though is it???Boxerbeetle wrote:A bit unfair to criticise Smith for getting into boxing due to fan man. You can hate the system, but he's just a small cog in the scheme of things. Barney Francis who is head of sports probably makes the ultimate decision on a lot of these matchups in regards to whether they end up on regular sky sports or Sky box office. I wouldn't be shocked if there was pressure put on Smith to make these kind of fights because they generate a lot of income versus regular sky sports cards.

Re: Sky's Adam Smith
I'm pleased you are looking forward to the fight, that's fair enough. I'm not criticising anyone who wants to watch it. The truth is that a large part of me will want to watch it too and I'll be torn as to whether to buy it or not as ultimately I'd rather watch boxing than not at the end of the day.mullenman wrote:I can't wait for the haye v bellew fight to be honest...

But wanting better fights doesn't make me a clown and being fed up of poor ppvs and match ups doesn't mean "I'm talking siht"
Each to their own. But you don't get to decide who should or shouldn't be on a boxing forum.

I would love to know how he actually got to the position he is in.
Somebody on here described him as a Golders Green ex public schoolboy type, and I think they are right.
