What did you make of Ohara Davies performace ?

Post by kbackup408 »

OD is slowly becoming my favourite young prospect, felt he started well his eye was clearly irritating him.

He has a solid set of tools, good jab, powerful right hand only thing I feel might let him down is his inside work and head movement !

What's next for Ohara Davies lads ?

I think he expected scarpa to fold earlier and got disheartened no variety can't see how the eye made such a difference because he was still throwing punches just the same ones over and over

He's not as good as he thinks he is, that's for sure.

Even so, he has potential to do well in the game, but he needs some work.

Decent fighter, but a lot of room for improvement.

Felt the same thing after round 3 you could see him getting frustrated, yeah he is very single paced

Do you reckon he can be world level in the next 1/2 years ?

He hasn't really struck me as a world level type, but we'll see what happens.

He won it behind a jab, fair play to him it was a shut out with Davies winning every second of every round tbh..

On the handful of occasions he tried to step it up and nail scarpa he got tagged, from ringside it looked as Ohara was buzzed a few times. He certainly became one dimensional and ran out of ideas in the back end of the fight in terms of looking to stop scarpa.

He won the figh but not many new fans I suspect .

Il be bold and say josh Taylor stops Ohara Davis in the back end of a messy 12 rnds, made messy by Davies after he gets tagged and hurt early.

Styles make fights & Scarpas style didn't help to make this an exciting fight. But Davis will gain a lot of confidence from this fight & you can't knock the result as he won every round.

Agreed I think some people are very hard on him because he has an active mouth piece. He won every minute of that 12 round bout yesterday I thought he looked sound but needs to improve before he steps up to world level next year.

Not a massive puncher at 140lbs imo, he needs to be hitting very hard as his skill alone will not take him to a world title.

Katie Taylor was sublime, genuinely great to watch. The thing that struck me with Davies was his limited punch variety and over all very one paced. He looked nervous but he did win every round and virtually every second of every round against a guy many thought would pose some difficult questions.

He did try and push the fight on a few very brief occasions but he got hurt so just returned to jab. He's not free flowing like a josh Taylor , it's hard to be too critical as he won but somethings a miss mentally imo. Seems to need reassurance and lacks belief. Limited.. That's how it looked to me from close ringside.

No to say he can't learn and improve those areas though. Josh wipes the floor with him right now..
