Loma Waters

Post by Taansend »

Well that was a f*cking let down. I thought Loma would win but Waters wasn't hurt. He's proven before that he can come back from being hurt to win but it looks like he just got fed up with being outboxed.

That was a terrible ending in a fight between two quality fighters.

Which has been kind of my point about Haye Bellew. You can have a fight between two blokes at the same weight at the top of their game & it's shite. So why slag off Haye Bellew which might be a cracker. If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. Don't b!tch. Just stay away.

I don't want to watch Walsall v Donacaster so I won't. It might end up 5-4 but that's my choice.

Walters looked hurt in the 7th to me, although it did seem like a soft retirement.

I agree he was getting swarmed at this point. I don't think he'd have lasted the distance, Loma would've got him out of there.

Loma made Walters quit, he simply couldn't get near him. He tried all he could and he said he didn't want any more, disappointing but the end result was never in doubt.

He was getting outboxed. Which I thought would happen. But he's a f*cking puncher. That shite happens. You keep going & keep trying.

Very disappointing ending, but Loma was fantastic, perfect performance.

If you are getting the cash Walters was on last night then surely you have a duty to go out on your shield.

Ive just this minute finished watching the fight, massive let down from Walters,I'm not sure what the issue was,he seemed to just quit,Lomachenko was just starting to up the pace and get into full flow after having a look at Walters, I was looking forward to the next round, gutting but I seen Walters was looking uncomfortable, looking over at his corner

Gutted not to see Lomachenko in his stride,Walters was rank

Why? Did you enjoy watching the last 3 rounds in Gutknecht vs Groves?

Embarrassing for Waters, he'll be regretting that now, not even hurt or busted up, just out classed in that last round and it was NO MAS.

But jesus christ, what a fighter Loma is - the best in the world right now ? I would say yes, incredible talent. The super fight out there is now Crawford / Loma - no one else beats these two right now.

Sorry Ricky but that's a really stupid comparison.

If you don't know the answer, you can't have seen both fights. Completely different situations.

Your argument is that any boxer who is getting outboxed should just quit between rounds. Otherwise they'll end up in hospital.

That's a stupid argument, Ricky. It's what I hear from the anti-boxing crowd.

He was outboxed in the first 3 rounds... by the time Walters quit it had descended into a beating. Loma was getting stronger and Walters lateral and head movement was going rapidly.

You are underestimating how one-sided this fight had become. Walters was in for a serious beating down the stretch and he knew it.

If every fighter thought that way we'd have no sport left.

I've seen hundreds of fights were a boxer is losing & still wins. It what gets us interested. The human will. The spirit of these amazing men (& women).

Quitting because things are not going your way is not what it's about. In four decades of watching I can only think of a few times someone has done a Walters at top level.

Ridiculous argument, everyone knew he quit too early, the crowd, his corner, Loma, the ref, EVERYONE. He hadn't been hurt or beaten up and was in no danger at all ( unlike the poor battered guy who fought Groves ) plus he's touted as one of the hardest punchers in the sport, so had a massive punchers chance as well. He just threw it away in frustration, and his fans back home will have been horrified, no doubt about it.

Referees and cornermen are criticised for not prevention best downs, yet fighters are called cowards for realising they can't win and opting out of one??

So does a fighter have to fight until he is nearly dead despite no chance of winning??

I would never quit but am of the belief that if a fighter is behind on the cards and doesn't really have a chance of winning then it should be stopped. You have to base the decision on the margin, the fragility of the opponent, power of his own punches, fatigue and history in bouts

There was nothing between them in the 1st 4/5 rounds,Lomachenko was winning but only just,he was waiting to see what Walters had to offer, realised it was nothing then turned the screw,Walters quit,it really was that simple, the comparisions to Groves/Gutnkecht are laughable,No Mas are accurate though

I love Ricky Burns but his style sometimes frustrates me,seeing Walters last night made me appreciate Ricky even more,Walters could do with a teaspoon of Ricky's perseverance

Who called him a coward?

And was he "nearly dead"?

Perhaps you're misreading the fight because it's a lower weight.

Walters lost every round. He needed a KO to win. He was gassing and he took a beating in the last round he boxed.

His punchers chance had gone, he knew he was done. Fighting on only goes one way. A bigger beating and inevitable stoppage.

Walters hadn't been the same since failing to make the weight that time.

Lomachenko is getting better and better, meanwhile.

Walters clearly seemed on the way down. First few rounds were kind of slow, but Loma controlled them, the next few were increasingly in Loma's favour, and the seventh saw Walters backpedaling and looking weary as he got tagged with a fight high number of shots.

I was surprised he pulled out, but it's not just like he was getting outboxed just a bit or had one poor round; he was down 7-0 or 6-1 at most generous, showed no signs of being able to turn it around, was being hit increasingly more, and though some believe he didn't look hurt I think he was near the end. Of course it looks bad to many people and seems to have damaged his reputation, but from a competitive standpoint I think he was pretty much done anyway, and pulling the plug spared him more punches to the head.
