Tyrone Nurse signs promotional deal

Post by ozzy1875 »

Decent bit of business by Frank, looks like it could be the first of many.

Hopefully this all but seals the Nurse vs. Catterall fight in the near future, any ideas on who could be next to sign, as per the link below?

Nurse isn't a big ticket seller and I doubt he does good numbers tv wise.
W@rren should spend his new found money on big names like DeGale and Selby and build his own Tyrone Nurses...

I didn't think that Nurse was signed to Matchroom? I thought Eddie was having him on his shows from time to time but he wasn't actually signed to a deal.

Regarding this deal itself- Frank needs to be signing guys who are going to operating at world level and who are decent names to help draw new subscribers to BT sports. Not domestic level (from what we've seen so far) fighters who also don't have a particularily exciting style to boot.

Not sure why this is a great buy outwardly - unless allegedly has been chatting to some of the champs or names. Expect a Adrien Broner or Crawford / Troyanovsky fight soon.

I wonder if the 'long term' contract is cancelled after a loss?

Josh Warrington next to sign. Nurse is from Huddersfield. Can ride the coat tails. Makes sense to me.

Catterall is W@rrens man at the weight. Signing Nurse to face him is a decent move.
W@rren should go after Lenny Daws next, Ashley Theophane aswell, and get the guys fighting each other...

Been to shows where Nurse is the best on the card by far but it always seems like he's got no more fans than the journeymen. Shame cos he's decent enough.

Isn't there quite a lot of fighters that fall into that category though mate? I'm talking even the bigger name fighters who compete at world or fringe world level? I mean Degale for instance, how many fans does he tend to have per show roughly?

T came along just a bit late, Huddersfield was once the venue of choice for Matchroom.

I enjoy watching Nurse, nice skills but not powerful enough so he's always in a scrap, I always seem to end up quite enjoying watching that pan out.

Not idea but from the way he was talking on Saturday it looks like Kid Galahad is on board going forward. The article does seem pretty confident.

There has been much speculation in recent weeks that there would be football transfer type movements with fighters moving between promoters and looking for the best opportunities. Frank added “Tyrone is the first of many new additions. We aim to be adding more to our stable of fighters in the coming weeks.”

An announcement on Tyrone Nurse’s first fight under Frank allegedly will be made in due course. More additions are expected to be made to allegedly’s growing stable of boxers in the coming weeks.

Glad he's signed with W@rren seems very likely Nurse/Catterall will happen, need more fights like that and happy to oblige while Matchroom continue to devalue the British title by steering their domestic level fighters away from each other.

W@rren has always tried built his fighters the right way.
British - Commonwealth - European - World.
I much prefer that route to Hearns silver and international title routes...

The end game with both is mandatory title shots and ppv fights, how they get there doesn't matter.

I would say W@rrens traditional route stands a fighter in better stead when that world title shot finally comes along but thats just me personally...

Frank's method is to use bogus titles where possible. Look at all his WBO european champs. The WBO let him do what he wants, he gets a talent, develops them, and brings these sort of titles into the mix, the beauty of these belts is, there are no difficult mandatories, unlike with British or European championships (the proper ones). It means you can handle them as you see fit. Build, build, build, and all the while the fighter climbs the WBO rankings without actually facing a real, genuine test.

If Hughie Fury won a British or European title, he would have to face opposition that may be too stiff for his management. He's not been handled by Fwank much, I just use Hughie as an example. He can build his record to 50-0 if he wants, never having to face anyone too threatening.

I'm not knocking Fwank, its good to see him on the up and he does have his fair share of British, Commonwealth and European champs, but his use of the WBO inter and euro titles is a bit laughable really. I guess its all about control and if I was a promoter I'd probably want that degree of control too, as much as possible.

I quite like Nurse, but don't think he's in danger of developing a much higher profile.

Speaking purely in commercial terms, if this is the sort of fighter Warren is going to snare then I can't see Fast Eddie filling his underpants just yet.
