Conor McGregor granted boxing licence in the US
According to reports from a couple of leading MMA writers Conor McGregor has become licenced as a boxer in California.

What does it all mean?
I still think talk of a McGregor vs Mayweather fight is fanciful, regardless of whether McGregor has gone and got himself licenced.

Re: Conor McGregor granted boxing licence in the US
I would think he plans to dip his toes in the Boxing waters against some soft opponent before fighting Mayweather. If he intended to fight Mayweather he'd have gotten licensed in Nevada

McGregor will never fight Mayweather, and I doubt he will ever box either.gilgamesh wrote:I would think he plans to dip his toes in the Boxing waters against some soft opponent before fighting Mayweather. If he intended to fight Mayweather he'd have gotten licensed in Nevada

Is'nt McGregor under contract with who ever owns the UFC how will they let there number 1 P4P fighter get his ass handed to him in a boxing ring that would not be good for the UFC brand it could take years to recover if Connor is made to look 3rd 4th rate it won't happen unless Mayweather fight's McGregor at his own game and it would have to be a billion dollar payday for TBE to even consider that
Re: Conor McGregor granted boxing licence in the US
Why wouldn't he??? ... If he ever fought Floyd he'd need a license to box -- and anyone can get one. Let's say you were cut from your high school basketball, football, and track teams but you dreamed of being an athlete.. You could go to your local Boxing Gym, train for a couple months, and literally get a license to box professionally no matter how bad you were.. I have literally seen them license guys who were barely fit enough to walk to the grocery store.. Somebody will fight them because that's an automatic win.Like a Boss wrote:According to reports from a couple of leading MMA writers Conor McGregor has become licenced as a boxer in California.

McGregor is just going to use this as a bargaining chip for his next UFC contract.Kalan wrote:Why wouldn't he??? ... If he ever fought Floyd he'd need a license to box -- and anyone can get one. The UFC can ill afford to have their pinup boy schooled by a boxer. It would set the UFC cause back 20 years.
So when McGregor renegotiates mid-next year the sky's the limit. The UFC need to apply a 24 carrot golden handcuff. They have little choice.

It means nothing. It simply achieves Conor's objectives though, which is to keep the rumour mill going and ensure his name is kept in the media spotlight.Like a Boss wrote:Conor McGregor granted boxing licence in the US

That and to help ensure he gets a kick-ass UFC contract renewal next year.Enlightened-One wrote:It means nothing. McGregor has also applied for a boxing license in Nevada. This has been confirmed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) executive director Bob Bennett.
However, due to the fact that McGregor has not yet paid the $75,000 fine imposed on him by the NSAC in October, nor produced an anti-bullying PSA as instructed, he has yet to be granted a boxing license by them.

As ridiculous as I think this fight is, both guys would be CRAZY not to pursue the possibility of this fight happening. I honestly think that this fight would be BIGGER that Manny/Floyd. The preflight buildup would be the best promotion ever with these two guys. The dollars generated in this one would be RIDICULOUS.Like a Boss wrote:According to reports from a couple of leading MMA writers Conor McGregor has become licenced as a boxer in California.

I honestly think that it happens. This fight has legs...way more legs than people think and this report about the license is intriguing.

I'm a strong advocate of the adage 'follow the money trail' but regardless, I just don;t see this one happening. Too many have too much to lose.caldo2025 wrote:As ridiculous as I think this fight is, both guys would be CRAZY not to pursue the possibility of this fight happening. I hope the UFC don't acquiesce to his demands, it will be the beginning of the end for the sport, we will end up with more divas dictating who, when and how they fight, just like boxing.

Anyone who thinks McGregor can beat Mayweather (under boxing rules) will get the chance to cash in if they ever meet.
Sportsbook company Bovada have framed odds for the fight, and shock horror, Mayweather is at the unbackable odds of -2250. They have McGregor at +950.
Meaning you would have to lay down $2250 on Mayweather to win $100.
A $100 bet on McGregor would win you $950.

I would not favor McG over FMJ but I might take those kind of odds, and I gamble very little.

Re: Conor McGregor granted boxing licence in the US
If Dan White actually agreed to let McGregor fight Mayweather it would help MMA no matter what happened... The publicity would be ridiculous..
But McGregor needs to learn how to box if it happens.. I've seen his jab. It really stinks.. He moves his head well to avoid punches and can punch real good with his straight left.. He could knock about any Welterweight out with that left.. It's a fast shot straight in.. But that doesn't do him any good if he's getting jabbed to death.. He puts too much strength on the jab and puts strength on everything.. He has to learn better feints and how to throw light, quick jabs that get in there and back fast, and score, and open you up for follow up shots.. His footwork stinks and his timing with the jab.. He needs a ton of sparring and mitt work, and a coach who knows one Hell of a lot more about jabbing than Roach.

Most likely right but McG has shown an excellent ability to learn, improve and adjust. He also has great heart. But he would still most likely get his ass handed to him by FMJ.Like a Boss wrote:It would be a donation mate. He's never fought a boxing match... Floyd would get killed in MMA, same difference

Certainly is morelike it. Conor has 3 losses within his own craft. Floyd is undefeated in his. It would be an embarrassing mismatch if they ever boxed each other. Floyd would clown the shit out of him.

Dana White pours some reality on the fantasy :
“It’s fun to talk about this fight and what might happen, but what commission would let that fight happen? Really, think about that.”
“I have no idea what Conor is doing. Conor’s Conor. He does his thing. But he’s under contract to me.”
