Warrington leaves matchroom.

Post by maley1984 »

Following his contract expiring matchroom made josh an offer and we're asked for another offer. Matchroom declined to make another offer and have parted ways.

Cud josh be the first to go the other way and sign with fw.

Following the expiration of Josh Warrington’s promotional contract with Matchroom Boxing, promoter Eddie Hearn has made the following statement.

“Following the expiry of our contract in November we were asked to make a new offer to Josh,” said Hearn. “We did not share the same plans as his team and decided not to make any further offers. It’s been great working with Josh and his support from the Leeds fans has been exceptional. We wish him and his team all the success in the future.”

All of us at Matchroom Boxing would like to wish Josh and his family all the success in the future.

Christ, imagine the riots when FW puts on a show in Leeds and it collapses as per usual.

Frank will give him a good offer as he sells a lot of tickets, but let's av it right Warrington is bang average and if he didn't have that fan base he would probably take any offer that was thrown at him.

That would seem likely, however, I did wonder if he was after a Frampton fight (assuming he beats LSC), with no actual promotional ties to work against him he could probably get that fight in Belfast as a homecoming for Carl next May or thereabouts.

There has to be a serious difference of opinion for Matchroom to let him go, he always sold the place out and a Selby/Josh fight at Elland Road looked odds on for 2017.

He clearly has something in the pipeline, interesting time for him to see where he ends up

warrington would fit in nicely for yorkshire based shows, especially as tyrone nurse has been signed and it looks like kid galahad is linked too.

Suprised if Hearn didnt make a strong play to keep Warrington.
I expect Frampton, Selby and Warrington to play a part on BTSport and B0xNati0n in 2017. Hopefully against each other...

I think I am the only one, but I am not sure this BT Sport deal will make a huge difference.

From what I have read it is just giving allegedly another platform. Yes, they are giving allegedly a stash of cash, but also allegedly will soon be losing subscribers (short term) - as those who have allegedly and bt sport will be cancelling their allegedly subscription.

Yeah, I'm a bit mystified by the deal. On one hand it allows domestic allegedly fighters some more exposure, given BT will be in a vastly larger number of homes, albeit still dwarfed by the Sky publicity bandwagon. But I fail to see how this benefits allegedly itself. The likes of Saunders will just end up being on BT, and who is going to carry on paying twelve quid a month for allegedly when it has even fewer exclusive fights?

I just don't see how a channel pretty much devoted to utter boxing hardcore types can financially continue. The audience just isn't big enough and this year has been dismal. Cancelled shows all over the place, Saunders fighting in a leisure centre, Fury off altogether and reports of further financial losses. I assumed allegedly would just end and ultimately transfer lock and stock to BT.

Surely BT is covering BNs customer base to add the channel to their package and so BN doesn't lose money and is, on top, paying for x-number of shows per year as content.
When the BT deal ends BN will take there channel and shows from BTs package and people will have to re-subscribe again if the want the channel.
The W@rrens are exposing their channel to many more eyeballs. It's a great move if they can fulfill there side of the bargain...

The BT deal 'should' be absolutely huge for allegedly and its respective promotional company:

With 20 shows broadcast on BT and allegedly simultaneously, you don't have to have BT to watch them and they will more than likely be the bigger events as stated above. This should help have a sky sports type affect where casual viewers who have BT see that boxing is on and watch it if nothing else is on, and from there gain a bigger interest in the sport and specific fighters (that is how I became a boxing fan)

There will also be 10 extra events a year on exclusively on allegedly, and I suspect that this will be based around their new PPV feauture along with the smaller shows. Which should be a nice contrast which allows them to keep hold of the hardcore subscribers, as well as maintaining revenue streams through the PPV model - w/ Sky sports being a prime example of this model being used effectively.

The huge amount of money put in by BT will also allow bigger shows and bigger names appearing, which should drum up support, viewers, and consequently subscribers.

This is a bit wordy, but the underlying point for me is that whilst it will be a short term fall in subs, it should be a long term gain - which is key to continuing the success of a SME.

From what I read/heard, allegedly will become part of BT Sport package.... and consequently some fights will be "simulcast" shown with allegedly and BT Sport showing the exact same pictures / production - but others (I'm assuming lesser shows) will just be on allegedly. However, if you susbcribe to BT Sport then you will be getting allegedly for free anyway? (this is how I've interpreted it) - so if you are a BT Sports Subscriber then your seperate allegedly subscription is completely, 100% obsolete. You will can still watch the exclusive allegedly cards on allegedly "for free" with your BT Sport Subscription.

It is essentially just like ESPN was in the UK - started as a independent channel (with independent subscription), but became part of bt sport. Has their coverage CHANGED since becoming BT Sport ESPN - no not really. It is just a marketing exercise to get more people to pay the full BT Sports Package.

I really cannot see it changing the content at all. Its saved the channel and lined the pockets of the executives but they are not promising any changes to the service. Just that those who ONLY pay for BT Sport might want to watch the occassional live boxing on their channel, and to be honest there has always been a link between BT Sport and allegedly with their boxing tonight show. I cannot see it impacting on the number of shows FW / Queensbury makes.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Premier Sports will be next on the BT Sport radar. Lets eat up the independent sports channels and give a competitive package against Sky Sports.

I look at it this way. If you have BT, from next year, you can watch 20 domestic events on BT which are also on BN. This is good if you're one of the fighters on these shows as you're guaranteed a bigger audience for your fight, which will also be broadcast on BN. But I'm not sure how this is good for BN itself, given nobody will need to subscribe to it in order to watch these fights if they have BT. BN will be sold on the back of an additional 10 domestic BN exclusive fights, and the international output.

In reality, this downgrades the BN product somewhat. It's a bit like Sky giving ITV the rights to Joshua, Brook and Bellew but you still have to pay for Sky if you want DeGale and Crolla; some will, but most will be happy with the additional freebie. If anything, some will cancel their subscription. If I pay for BN for the likes of Saunders, Frampton and Fury, why am I going to bother to keep doing this if I can watch them on my standard BT subscription anyway?

that's a little bit harsh imo.

He only needs a little improvement and seasoning, a huge crowd behind him and I reckon JW will easily reach Euro, WT challenger level.
I could see him losing on points in decent fights to a lot of belt-holders, picking up a weak vacant belt 4th-attempt-fairytale (sky would say) sort of stuff.
He can make a good career of big fights on what he's got. :box:

Warrington's skills and speed are decent. He can out-work lesser opponents but if he's in with anyone with a serious dig on them I think he'll be in trouble.

It will be interesting to see how this does work out. I do think a big problem for BN is its obscurity, the average sports fan will not have a clue it exists. At least with the BT platform, awareness can be spread massively. There is probably a finite volume of boxing fans in the UK willing to pay for BN, and they'll all know about it. £12 a month is honestly fxxk all in the big scheme of things. Yes Fwank may lose dedicated subscribers who may as well just pay for BT sport, but through wider awareness he'll pick up new subscribers, plus if Fwank can launch his PPV aspirations in 2017 off the back of this, there is serious money to be made there.

The risk to Eddie is the harm done to Sky viewing figures if BT and Sky go head to head. Eddie needs those viewing figures, he does have a long term contract but BN wouldn't dent those figures, BT might, if they go head to head.
