Didn't Haye Just Speak The Truth Yesterday?

Post by keithmoonhangover »

Haye said he was going to spark Bellew.
He said Hearn loves to be in front of the camera.
He said he sells tickets.
He said some people want to see his knock Bellew out.
He said he can knock Bellew out any time he wants.

Apart from the fight speculations, I think Haye is just speaking the truth.

There's not a lot you could argue with there

He also said he offered Lucas Browne $2M when in reality there was no contact between the two.

I wouldn't disagree with any of them. I'm hoping Haye can ko him early as I'm already a few quid heavy in and that will grow

Who has more credibility when it comes to honesty: David Haye or Lucas Browne's manager? That's what I thought.

An offer and a contract are not the same thing though.

I don't trust anything anybody says in boxing when it comes to negotiations. Or... Anything for that matter.

Haye is talking rubbish. Browne didn't have a choice of who he fought for the WBA.

Briggs wasn't the WBA's first choice. They went down the rankings first.

The WBA decided who fought for the title, not Browne or Haye.

yes, but Briggs wasn't the first choice. haye was rated higher and was given the chance to fight Browne first.

Which means Haye himself must have turned it down, not Browne.

No sir it does not. Due to Browne's legal situation he was given a title shot. Haye was offered the chance, but they could not agree terms, so Haye looked elsewhere. That's how it works.

It goes to purse bid actually. The fight is ordered before negotiations begin. Someone with limited appeal like Browne can't choose who he faces for a vacant title.

Purse bids aren't called straight away. There is a period of negotiation. If both parties still want the fight, then purse bids can be called. If that doesn't happen, which is the case with Browne-Haye. What the WBA do is go down the rankings until they find the next available and interested boxer. In this case it was Briggs and the rest is history.

I know it wasn't ordered. I didn't say it was. I've explained how the system works, but you're ignoring it.

Your explanation doesn't support Haye's ridiculous claim.

I'm not convinced by the sudden anti-hearn rhetoric, sounds like he is just trying to get the hearn hating hardcores on his side

Let me try one more time.

1. Because of Browne's legal issues, the WBA grant him the fight for the title.
2. The WBA then start at the top of the rankings, going down each fighter in descending order, until they find a boxer, who agrees to the fight.
3. Haye was above Briggs in the ranking.
4. Haye tries to make the fight, but doesn't.
5. Briggs is the next available boxer in the rankings. He wants the fight.
6. The WBA order the fight for the title.

You with me so far?
