Why? Wasn't McG having significant trouble with Nate Diaz's boxing skills a few bouts ago?

Malignaggi sucks, and McGregor has a very good left hand. Probably lean towards Malignaggi having enough to bag the rounds but wouldn't be entirely surprised if McGregor just walked down possibly the most feather-fisted fighter i've ever seen compete at world-level, and landed some good hard shots.
If he did box I don't think he accomplished much. There is no evidence that he actually won a national title, as once claimed.

Paulie has beaten and been competitive with many fighters who punch much harder than himself; he also has a solid chin.

Mcgregor seems to have very good natural power and timing. I think hed have a shot as paulie is some way past his prime and inactive. Think mcgregor is probably the bigger man too. Id probably watch it.

I reckon he'd have a shot against all of them bar Vargas who I think is probably the best of that bunch.

50-50 or maybe 60-40 in their favour. I could see them beating him on points but I could also see him walking them down for a stoppage win. He counter punches pretty nicely on the front foot.

Now if we're talking about Brook, Spence, Garcia, Pacquaio, Thurman, Bradley and also Khan (unless he got chinned) he'd get his ass kicked for sure by those guys. Mayweather well that's a given aswell. I'd still be interested in watching it though purely because it attract a lot of interest and be a legitimately big event- despite being a mismatch.

So I take it you think he'd already be an EBU level boxer upon his debut?

He's definitely got some pop, but he doesn't strike me as being particularly skilled for pro boxing standards, and with boxing gloves I'm not sure he'd find his power as effective. Of course there are also differences with rounds, ropes, and so forth.

How good of a boxer do you think Nate Diaz is? In their first fight he seemed to figure out Connor's stand-up and began to hit him freely, leading McG to attempt an out of character take-down if I recall correctly.

Agreed, this is why I think it would be a 50-50 fight. Obviously Mcgregor would have very little chance against most world level boxers and Malignaggi could potentially box his head off for 12 rounds, but Paulie is way past his best and Mcgregor wouldn't have to worry about what was coming back at him.

Well to be fair- Ward gets the Diaz brothers in for sparring when he's fighting a southpaw. He said that both of them can box and that he wouldnt use them for sparring if they couldn't fight.

Saying that though- Conor still had a lot of success in that fight. He gassed out badly though and then got clipped with a few 1-2's in quick succession and got hurt and panicked and shot for a takedown!

Regarding whether he's EBU level or not- I think it would depend on who he was matched with as boxing tends to go. For instance Bradley Skeete who is a British level operator at this moment in time would very likely outbox Conor but yet I could see him beating Frankie gavin who would mentally fall apart as much as anything and Egginton who is very hittable would be beatable imo.

It's all opinion and conjecture though obviously.

Old Paulie I'd pick to beat McGregor. This current version looks shot to shit and his punch resistance looks to have deteriorated a fair bit from when he was at his best.

I say it again, Skeete would beat McGregor with plenty to spare. It's actually insulting to boxing in general to suggest McGregor would be 50/50 against some of these names listed!

The difference is difficult to comprehend obviously!

Someone like Thurman would KILL McGregor. Actually kill him I reckon.

Also, McGregors chin being ranked high here. Didn't he quit when Diaz rocked him? Honestly, McGregor would do well to win the equivalent of the British in boxing.

Ya, but how good would Nate Diaz be as a pro boxer with his current experience? Do you think he'd already be a top 50 fighter upon his debut? He seemed to have figured out Connor's standup in their first bout, and was having no trouble landing near the end. And if Connor was already that badly gassed, it doesn't bode well for him in bouts that would be scheduled for 30-36 minutes.

Further, with boxing gloves his shots will do less damage, and his opponents will be able to block more effectively. I think he'd need to rely more on skill, and I'm not sure if he has enough of it to beat people like Paulie, Bundu, Horn, and Algeri in his pro debut.

Quite surprised how many of you guys are giving McGregor masses of credit without even seeing him box properly.

Have to say I enjoyed listening to Bunce rant about it on the radio and had to agree with him.

He could obviously work his way up but to think some are saying he'd beat top 10/15 contenders already has shocked me a bit.

Yeah but aren't you head of McGregor's Twydall fan club Lefty!? :OhYes:

Honestly, he looks a million dollars countering small, face first wrestlers, but boxers? People who have excelled in this one discipline enough to reach a high level? I can't even imagine him being successful.

Not yet! I've applied for the role though :OhYes: ....... na I get that but McGregor is somebody that comes from a boxing background. He was an amateur boxer before he ever took up MMA. Despite what level he reached in the unpaid ranks- it's not like Woodhouse who took up boxing in his late 20's. I mean Tony Thompson didn't enter a boxing gym until he was 27 ffs lol..

Thompson did have about 30 pro boxing matches under his belt when he started fighting top 50 opponents though

Pretty funny that anyone would pick him over Paulie in his pro debut. How many amateurs re there that we'd pick to beat Paulie in their first fight? That'd be some Lomachenko level matchmaking straight off the bat and he's one of the top amateurs of all time. Does McGregor even have an amateur record to speak of or did he just go in a gym a few times as a kid? It's immaterial as he's got the licence to squeeze few extra $'s from the UFC when his contract comes up for renewal.
