Middleweights: GGG vs The Hitman/The Hawk

Post by elmersalsa »

Since we're examining GGG's boxing career, how about him fighting in his prime against the great Thomas Hearns and against a devastating puncher like Julian "The Hawk" Jackson? It would be a KO. I don't see a decision win here.

Golvokin v Hearns - Tommy wasn't a great middleweight, although with his power, speed & skills, he would have been dangerous. He'd mark up Golovkin, but his punches would bounce off the Kazakh's chin with little effect; Hearns would get tired & Golovkin would bust him up & stop him in about 8 rounds.

Golovkin v Jackson - Jackson would start fast & try to blast Golovkin out to not avail. Golovkin would start teeing off & probably splatter Jackson inside 4 rounds.

Given that gggs defense is underrated I think the shots he would take from hearns would primarily be on the top of his head as he does a lot of ducking and making himself a smaller target, taking punches on the top of the head is ideal compared to anywhere else on the head....that's what I believe, that's what I know. If he was to cut off tommy, take a few to the top of the head, survive them..,then bang tommy out of there could be an early night. Tommy had fast feet though but he could be caught.

Not idea about Jackson. Don't know much about him other than his punching ability,

Could you not see Tommy out boxing Golovkin if he kept to a game plan Syntax? Go for fast shots from range rather even trying to KO the Kazakh.
I can see that too: Tommy could outbox anybody if he put his mind to it.

However, my fear with him is that he loved to go for broke & if he did that against the iron jawed Golovkin, he could be in trouble & I see Golovkin withstanding Tommy's power punches & putting him under severe pressure & Hearns tended to wilt when put under pressure against tough opponents.

Tommy would be well aware of GGG power he wouldn't be coming out going crazy like against Hagler..........Hearns would survive a few rocky moments in the middle round's to win a close but un dec.GGG would stop Jackson in 3 :TU:
