I thought Lebedev won the fight by a small margin, but I have no problem with Gassiev gaining the title.

I'm not sure if the new champ fulfilled the expectations of the hype, though.

What hype?
Most people thought Lebedev would get a stoppage.

Leb did win the fight, but ofc he hit the canvas and fought mostly on the back foot convincing the boxing casuals he was losing.

Leb outboxed him most rounds but looked more vulnerable of the two, still doesn't mean he lost.

Yeah but EO is referring to Gassiev so I'm not sure what hype he's referring too. Most people were picking Lebedev to win. Gassiev was seen as what he is. A big, strong, durable, big punching, pressure fighter. There was no real hype there from what I could see.

Gassiev is a Big G, but he lacks huge amateur experience of the Middle G.

Usyk vs Gassiev ! Let's go !

I could've seen it going either way. Leb's body language didn't look good in the second half, but even then he was often the one moving his hands and landing, while Gassiev marched forward looking strong, but not pulling the trigger as much as he should've IMO. A superficial viewing of the fight probably gives Gassiev as the clear winner, as he was the one moving forward and not looking so weary.

I'd expect Gassiev to win a rematch more comfortably

Not yet. He'd get schooled. Lebedev 2, Huck and Briedis would all be great.

I think Usyk would outbox Gassiev pretty handily

Yes please on Gassiev vs Briedis or Huck; very competitively matched fights with more entertaining style match-ups than Gass-Usyk (I'd still like that too, but not as much)

It would be interesting to see how Usyk would handle Gassiev's power though. Especially the body shots.

Gassiev would struggle to land anything I imagine.

I'm sure he'd land something significant in 12 rounds.

What round? No wonder Lebedev was looking worse for wear going down the stretch (according to posts).

he knocked him down in the 5th with a left hook to the body,Gassiev had already hurt him there twice in a row so he went in again with the 3rd and had Leb on the deck wincing for the full 8 count dragging himself up and puffing his cheeks out.it was a beauty!

On Gassiev, there was a bit of hype about him to be fair.Theres bound to be hes a banger, looks pretty solid and durable and his knockouts are brutal af but there are things he could improve on from this fight. He waited far too much when he had Lebedev hurt or tired, apart from the knockdown he should have been whipping em into his body.He was having success there so i dont know why he gave up with it.Theres not much in terms of a jab really and he does tend to be happy to walk through punches at times which is pretty fornicating crazy with a guy like Lebedev.

Gassiev is a decent boxer with lethal power. He would have punchers chance against anyone (not only CWs, HWs too).

I think I saw an interview where BJ Flores was saying that Gassiev had broken the ribs of heavyweights in sparring in the past. I'm pretty certain he broke Lebedev's jaw tonight aswell. Time will tell I guess as to whether that is the case or not though.

Gassiev's promoter says that they will not give Lebedev rematch, because he removed the WBA belt from the stake.

You guys obviously knew more about Gassiev than I did before the Lebedev fight.

I read a few articles before tonight's fight and the new champ was being portrayed as something that he clearly wasn't, so my expectations were set too high.

I don't proclaim to know everything about all fighters, but I do try to educate myself before watching bouts, but perhaps in Gassiev's case, the journalists were a tad too flattering.
