Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
Under boxing rules Malignaggi would not just beat McGregor. He would school him.
Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
I like mcgregor, but malignaggi should still have enough to beat him at boxing
Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
Yeah there probably is some fanboyism on my behalf admittedly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not deluded to the point where I think he has any kind of chance against Floyd or any of the top welterweights or light middleweights. It's more intrigue than anything in regards to matchups vs guys like Malignaggi, and Van Heerden and guys of that level.crusader wrote:That's another thing, how vaunted will that power of his be when he's wearing boxing gloves? I doubt he'll have the same ability to hurt opponents with single shots, and skill would become more of a factor. Are experienced and skillful pro boxers going to have that much trouble with his one hand? Is knocking out grapplers in the UFC evidence that they would?
Suggesting that he'd debut as pretty much a top 15 boxer is fanboyism IMO. Again, even in his own domain he had serious problems with Nate Diaz's hands.
A prime Malignaggi would box Conor's head off no doubt, it's just that the current version of Pauline looks to have deteriorated a lot from his prime. He didn't look that great against European/british level guys more recently. I say british there because some of the guys you have fighting for the EBU belt look worse than guys operating at british level at times.
I don't think that Conor is a masterful boxer but he does have a good counter left hand and decent timing and obviously big power in small mma gloves. How his power would be with 10 Oz gloves is a different matter though.

It was put up in reply to McGregors lot putting out a heavily edited clip of them sparring. Basically saying here's a round of unedited footage, judge for yourself.lefty wrote:That's footage filmed by Van Heerden's team right? That's probably about as objective as the stuff Mcgregor's team put out. Tony Jeffries who was there and watched all the sparring to my knowledge- said that he was impressed with Mcgregors boxing.crusader wrote:An embedded version of the video linked above:

McGregor looks jank. Doesn't know what to do and Van Heerden is playing with him. The suggestion he is competitive with top class boxers ( even good/possibly decent boxers ) just seems crazy to me and as mentioned above, true 'fanboyism'
I hate to think how many hearts would be broken if someone like Skeete fought him. I keep mentioning Skeete and with good reason. He'd piss all over him. He's a domestic champion and he'd piss all over him.
It's best Conor never fights in the squared circle imo. It keeps the myth alive, well, until someone beats him again in the UFC.
Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
Yeah but if he can get a $50 million payday or something fighting Floyd then he'd be stupid too turn it down. Even if he got a good hiding. Just like we were talking about in regards to Haye-Bellew. I know that's not the same in the sense that Bellew is a professional boxer- however, he probably has little chance against Haye either.lillywhite14 wrote:It was put up in reply to McGregors lot putting out a heavily edited clip of them sparring. For instance if you look at this footage here- which was filmed by Tony Jeffries gym (and not Mcgregors team) going off the brand stamp in the corner- you can see that whilst he's still not having it all his own way- Mcgregor is having more success than he is in the other clip

Is that the one round before he gassed, got buzzed, and tried a takedown

What would Mayweather do to the McGregor in either clip though?lefty wrote:For instance if you look at this footage here- which was filmed by Tony Jeffries gym (and not Mcgregors team) going off the brand stamp in the corner- you can see that whilst he's still not having it all his own way- Mcgregor is having more success than he is in the other clip

Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
Would UFC let their fighter really fight a past prim boxer like Malignaggi? It's easy to explain losing a lob sided decision to Floyd. Not so easy explaining why you were taken apart by a semi-retired former title holder who lost almost all of his major fights?
Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
He was still landing more than he was in the other clip though. You have to remember aswell though that Van Heerden is a guy that spends all his time training in boxing- Mcgregor has to fit boxing training alongside kickboxing, taekwondo, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, etc, etc. I'd be interested to watch them spar after Mcgregor has spent say a year purely on boxing versus all the other facets he normally has to concentrate on.lillywhite14 wrote:He looks poor in that clip too mate

Huh? You've lost me.crusader wrote:Is that the one round before he gassed, got buzzed, and tried a takedown
Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
But Van Heerden is having fun with him there, it's half pace and he's barely putting anything to him.lefty wrote:He was still landing more than he was in the other clip though. I've already said he wouldn't stand a cat in Hells chance against Mayweather, mate.Like a Boss wrote:What would Mayweather do to the McGregor in either clip though?lefty wrote:For instance if you look at this footage here- which was filmed by Tony Jeffries gym (and not Mcgregors team) going off the brand stamp in the corner- you can see that whilst he's still not having it all his own way- Mcgregor is having more success than he is in the other clip

Correct. Much of it is almost slow motion.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:But Van Heerden is having fun with him there, it's half pace and he's barely putting anything to him.lefty wrote:He was still landing more than he was in the other clip though. Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
True. Mcgregor doesn't exactly look like he's going all out either though to be fair.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:But Van Heerden is having fun with him there, it's half pace and he's barely putting anything to him.lefty wrote:He was still landing more than he was in the other clip though. Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
Got to agree with the comment that Skeete would outbox him, never mind the likes of Floyd.

According to Malignaggi himself :
“Easiest fight of my life…He’s a quitter”

Paulie clowns him in a boxing ring, you can't compare the two sports.

Let's get back to the real. Would Freddie Flintoff beat Bellew, if it was at heavy?

Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
I think people are arguing about different things. I initially took the question to mean could Mcgregor beat Malignaggi if he decided to turn pro and trained full-time in boxing for a year or so. It seems others have taken the question to mean could Mcgregor beat Malignaggi in a boxing match right now, which is obviously a totally different scenario.lefty wrote:He was still landing more than he was in the other clip though. Re: Would Paulie Malignaggi beat McGregor ?
That's a little bit different to be fair. You're comparing an ex professional cricketer with a combat sports athlete who does have some background in striking and boxing.SamWise72 wrote:Let's get back to the real. Would Freddie Flintoff beat Bellew, if it was at heavy?
