A young boxer has died after being knocked unconscious by a single punch during his first fight. Kuba Moczyk had been in a coma with a bleed on the brain following the blow, which came during the final round of a boxing match in Great Yarmouth on Saturday. The 22-year-old was treated at the James Paget University Hospital, where his twin sister Magdalena kept a vigil at his bedside.

Hard to say until the facts come out but I think there should be stricter regulations in terms of the weigh ins st these shows, a lot of lads I know box unlicensed and don't have a weigh in or anything

Weight management probably played a big part in recent BBBC injuries.

It probably did mate but that doesn't get away from the the point I made about tighter regulations being put in place on "unlicensed" shows

Its certainly used to happen at licenced amateur shows about 10 years ago - particularly for the senior novices..... one coach would go "yeah, my guy looks about the same size".... fight is on. I know of licenced fights that took place with one of the boxers was fighting without a protector.

I just hope this is no longer the case and ALL licenced amateur fights are regulated much more stringently.

Sounds like he had an underlying condition going into it.

sorry my mistake I know your a senior at 17 in the ams, its just with them boxing with no vest or headgear like pros and one lad being under 18 that got me wondering

In the ams an 18 yr old can box a 17 yr old as long as there's no more than 12 month in it. The 18 yr has to wear a headguard if his opponent is 17. At club shows the rule of thumb is 2 kilo either way depending on age weight and experience obviously the heavier you go the more relaxed re. Weight. I boxed amateur in the early 80s for ten years then pro,60 fights in both. Then trained pros and coached ams for last ten years at every level...thousands of shows and have NEVER heard or seen of a bbbc or Aba show where you didn't weigh in.

Same mate boxed 13 year amature/pro allover the country and never ever seen to an aba or bbbofc show where there's been no weigh in - the safety has normally been excellent
