Welcome to one of boxing least exclusive clubs Lee, the 'world champion' club.

Like The Championship (football) of world titles. Still a decent level for those that are not truly world level.
Don't knock it unless you want to declare you're own world titles below........?
How many British have claimed the WBU ?

Re: WBU Middleweight title
The WBU is a good win for those boxers who are never going to be world elite in terms of the 'premiership' titles on offer. Do those League 1 boxers deserve at least something to fight for? There are that many world titles that none mean anything anymore. So the WBC is great, fantastic to that world holder and the WBU holds the same value to those who hold them. Anyone 'league' is entitled to have something worth fighting for.

And a DQ victory over him after Wilder hit him when he was down.

Southern Area? English? I kinda appreciate what your saying and I'm not wanting to be disrespectful but a world title fight has to be at a certain level to have any sembelence of value - it's just used car salesman stuff otherwisemimmy123 wrote:The WBU is a good win for those boxers who are never going to be world elite in terms of the 'premiership' titles on offer. It has value to the owner though. Im sure these lads in the MBC/BIBA know they they are not as good as the elite but they are not in the elite league.fizzjambo wrote:Southern Area? English? When my kids were cross country runners many years ago they ran in races that were country wide and some that other counties were in too, trials for UK etc. My kids were lucky to get into the top 100 in races were the whole of the UK were enteringbut when they ran in races county wide and only North Yorkshire kids were in we were delighted if they came in the top 10. My kids were over the moon too, but we knew that in selected races they would do well but put them in with the elite they knew getting a top 100 place was mostl likely out of the question.
If my grandson takes up boxing and at 4 years old he has a decent jab on him (I would put videos up of him but too many weirdos on the net) and gets to a level where he can only be competetive at a level of a minor governing body and wins a 'world title' I would be over the moon. That world title would mean the world to me and his parents, infact I would sleep with the belt. I would know the value of it in terms of world title belts however, but to me and his other family it would mean a great deal.
I hatew to see people knock the MBC/BIBa because its giving an opportunity to lads and lasses who will never get to the top of an elite sport. It gives focus and helps their confidence to be at least decent in their own league.
for those mockers who have ever played Sunday league football for a pub, just think of what it was like winning a cup for that team or scoring a goal.

But this is like running a family 2k fun run and calling yourself a World Champion because you won.

If this person runs and wins a family fun run he is entitled to be called a world champion in his circle of family. So its quite reasonable to say it.

Whenever I beat my son at a game, I always declare myself a world champion and present myself with a homemade trophy, whilst mocking him for being a loser. He's only 2, but it will toughen him up.mimmy123 wrote:Actually you are right.Boxerbeetle wrote:Sounds reasonable to meRealistic wrote:But this is like running a family 2k fun run and calling yourself a World Champion because you won.

Nice one, it will do his confidence real good. Dennis Nilson's dad used to do the exact same thing to his kid a young un. He turned out reasonably ok.Boxerbeetle wrote:Whenever I beat my son at a game, I always declare myself a world champion and present myself with a homemade trophy, whilst mocking him for being a loser. Re: WBU Middleweight title
I disagree. I think Ricky Hatton legitimized the WBU belt. I believe the fighter makes the belt, and not vice-versa.tigermoth87 wrote:That title has about as much value as Charlie Z`s homemade belt.
I remember seeing a really excellent 12 rounder on an ice-rink between Michael Hunter and Frankie De Milo for the lightly regarded WBF belt. The belt’s not much to shout about - but the fight was brilliant. Hunter said on here that for the people of Hartlepool it was a world title fight, and he was dead right when I think about it.
Of course 3 years later the IBF belt also rolled into town. Good fighters do still compete for “lesser” belts.
Re: WBU Middleweight title
It goes to show how devalued boxing "world" titles have become if we are seriously discussing whether Lee Churcher has the right to call himself a world champion. I suppose that in a world where we are asked to say what sex we perceive ourself to be then anything is acceptable.

But he's a world champion in his league there is nothing wrong with that. Holding world titles became devalued in terms many many years ago.roy wrote:It goes to show how devalued boxing "world" titles have become if we are seriously discussing whether Lee Churcher has the right to call himself a world champion. Re: WBU Middleweight title
Yup. I’ve always thought the idea of having one, single world title is a stupid, stupid, stupid idea. Every single week Man United earn, Chelsea earn, Man City earn, Swindon Town (whatever league they’re in now!) earn, Hartlepool earn, AFC Wimbledon.....whoever. And you’re gonna tell me that every single 11 stone man in the WORLD is gonna fight over ONE prize - and that’s good because then “everyone knows who whe champion is”?!mimmy123 wrote:The WBU is a good win for those boxers who are never going to be world elite in terms of the 'premiership' titles on offer. What about the other blokes’ blood, sweat and 6am hill-sprints? He should get punched in the face for chump change? A totally ludicrous proposition.

I think any 'world champion' knows whos better at his game than himself. I for 1 bet you will never hear the likes of Lee Churcher shouting out other world champions knowing that they could not beat them.magwitch wrote:Yup. he didn't legitimize it he just used it as a tool to get certain level fighters over here for seasoningmagwitch wrote:I disagree. I think Ricky Hatton legitimized the WBU belt.
