Most titles fought for in one fight

Post by Mimmy »

Im sure there have been 4 titles fought for in one fight before, but can anyone find any other fights that there have been more than 4 individual titles on the line?

I'm sure Roy Jones defended ludicrous amounts of belts at one stage

Edit: 6. On the line vs Clinton woods

At World level it depends you count the IBO. I mention this as Wladimir Klitschko held the WBA, WBO, IBF and the IBO. But from British perspective there has been.

Henry Cooper who has defended his British, Commonwealth and European titles. And successfully defended them against Brian London, but lost them to Joe Bugner who in turn list them to Jack Bodell

Roy had just about every belt under the sun before he jumped to HW. IIRC the only world title he never won was the WBO title which Michalczewski kept in Germany for 10 years.

B-Hop is the only man to unify what are today recognised as the 4 major world titles. Jermain Taylor is the only other man to hold all 4 after beating Hopkins.

Surely nobody can top Joseph Parker -

WBO Oriental
PABA
WBC Eurasia Pacific
WBO Africa
WBA Oceana
OPBF

This will be talked about for years.

Calzaghe and Haye would have had them all simultaneously if it wasn't for the IBF. They also stripped Taylor straight away as well.

Yep. Calzaghe even won the IBF from Lacy I think but was later stripped and never won it back.

Although not simultaneously - cos by the time he fought Vasquez he was also stripped of the IBF title as he did not fight his mandatory - Hector Lizzaraga. I guess it is hard to satify both the fans, the boxing public and the organising bodies. Roy Jones accepted his mandatories - got a plethora of belts for his troubles, but also a "Roycott" when it came to PPV.

That's right.

That's the one I remember, he had people helping carry the belts for him.
