Stanley was obviously an amazing fighter, just a shame he died so young. After the middleweight poll I read about him again and it was clear that those who seen him fight thought he was a phenom. i downgrade him a little for the Sam Langford shenanigans, he was likely keen to fight Sam just his management wasn't.

I'd only read one or two accounts from Langfords side really before I took some more time on it recently. it's crazy how quickly Ketchel cleaned out the contenders when he was basically an addict.

Gilgamesh, you're an idiot... I never said Chamberlain was the greatest Heavyweight. I said he could beat Ali (very hittable with no inside game) if the contract was ever signed by Ali that would have given Wilt 6 months to train... NO 7-foot plus basketball player had the arms, shoulders, legs, and feet to match Wilt.. Nobody else ever led the league in scoring and rebounding the same season.. and plus he led in foul shots made.. No other center ever led the NBA in assists..

Most 7-footers are awkward as Hell. They have 2 left feet and can't get out of their own way. You see coaches working with them one-on-one and they're usually very shy and self-conscious because everyone is staring at them.. They can't dribble. They can't shoot. Maybe they can block shots. Even in rebounds they're generally out hustled. Chamberlain could anticipate the flight of he ball and be where the rebound caromed off the boards.


7-footers are not the biggest producers in the league generally---and about 1 in 70 who make it to the NBA if they're actually good enough to play basketball at any level.. Chamberlain invented his own moves, spinning and faking this way and that and nailing the shot.. A quick jab from Wilt was like a right cross.. a right hand would knock you dead.. His hands were so big he needed custom made gloves..

He also predicted IF Wilt Chamberlain could get Ali into a ring he would knock him cold... We're talking about a super athlete 7'1" tall and 290 pounds with a 101 inch reach.. and super fast and smart.. Patterson and D'Amato Measured Wilt's reach.. I don't know where somebody got 92" but maybe Wilt wasn't stretching his arms out to fool Ali.. But Ali got cold feet anyway and refused to sign the contract, and below is the proof.

It has to be Harrison for me...admittedly an easy, much-discussed and predictable target for criticism and it should always be noted Audley's career was profitable and never a litany of complete/inept failures.

However, there's also no escaping the fact that he made some crucial mistakes and did not maximise his talent.

We're talking about a tall, properly big, very mobile southpaw with fast hands and good reflexes (something of a nightmare package) who did not need to travel and had the right backing.

But Audley still did not hire the best or wish to be pushed or schooled in the pro game; and that was a colossal mistake for a fighter who needed to be challenged and had to shake off an amateur style.

When thinking about Bowe... Can't help but think of Andrew Golota. Craziest career I can think of. Always his own enemy. The Bowe fights were amazing to say the least. Bowe was considered the best heavy in the world post beating Holyfield. This was a Holyfield that gave Lewis fits too. Re watched the two fights recently. Weird all the way around. Could have been stopped a few times and the beatings caused Bowe to never be the same. Golota dolled out headbbutts in the Nicholson fight (in an otherwise strong performance against an Olympian trained out of Kronk no less). Another forgotten fighter. Biting Pouha (so?). Strangest fight ever with Tyson. Two self exploders. "Beating" both Byrd and Ruiz but getting robbed as they were King fighters. Coming back to gut a fight out in his forties against young hard punching Mike Mollo. Definitely most irritating exciting crazy and disappointing heavy I can think of.

Can't believe I am gonna waste time like this... If you listen to Kalan old boy you'd have to pick Porzingis over every fighter in history. Tremendous ability for a 7'1 guy. Slicker than Wilt. He can shoot inside/outside and dribble like a guard. He'd knock them all out. Greatest heavy of all time. Till he gets hit and like Wilt an average heavy would easily KO them.
