Chisora-Whyte could be CANCELLED following brawl

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Dereck Chisora's planned fight with Dillian Whyte may be cancelled following the mass brawl at their press conference on Wednesday.

The two heavyweights and their respective camps had to be separated after Chisora threw a table at Whyte during their press conference in Manchester.

They are set to fight at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, but an emergency meeting between the British Boxing Board of Control is understood to be taking place on Thursday, and it is believed that the fight being called off has not been ruled out at this stage.
Head of the BBBofC Robert Smith says he was 'disgusted' with the incident, and plans on taking action.

"I've watched it a couple of times and I'm disgusted by it. I don't know what will happen yet. I will have to speak with who I have to speak to, and then make a decision, but it is not a very helpful scenario to be in," said Smith.

"I will speak to Eddie Hearn again, we have a couple of days before the weigh in and we will see what we need to do. It is wrong, it should never have happened."

Eddie confirmed earlier it won't be cancelled. He's discussed this with Robert Smith and assured him the fighters will not be anywhere near each other until they are in the ring on Saturday night.

Apparently, they will be in different locations for the weigh in.

Actually on second thoughts the fight might not go ahead. Not a case of the fight being called off more a case of Chisora having his license revoked....again. Last time Robert Smith said "Dereck Chisora is not a fit and proper person to hold a licence." "The British Boxing Board of Control deplore what occurred at the weigh-in, in the ring before the contest commenced and at the post-contest press conference. Such behaviour brought the sport of boxing, the BBBofC and all licence holders into disrepute."

Yeah but that time he done it much more randomly. Whereas Whyte clearly intenionally provoked him.

Though Chisora actually said at the time he didn't care because like last time he'd just get another lincense.

He was provoked today but here's some quotes from Smith:

“I have been made aware of it, I’ve watched it a couple of times and I’m disgusted by it."

"This is being taken extremely seriously. We will be meeting on Thursday and we will decide then what we are doing."

"There will be action taken and I am in the process of dealing with it now."

"“We will act very quickly. I wouldn’t like to speculate about what will be decided, but there are a whole range of options open to us.”

Sounds like Robert Smith means business. Simply keeping the fighters apart, as Eddie has suggested, might not cut the mustard. I think one of them at least will either be suspended or lose their license.

Why have a press conference a few days before the fight? They know how volitile these two are and to be honest they both should never step foot in a boxing ring again cause they are both thugs of teh highest order,if whyte wants to be a street thug then be a street thug and stop bringing the sport i love into the public eye for all the wrong reasons, take ur shitty gangster wannabe attitude and stick stright up ur balloon knot the pair of u cause im sick to the back teeth of pr1cks like these two and bellend,go and wash cars or stack shelves to earn a crust and let the real gentlemen take part in this great sport

Maybe, I think they'd probably try and go the Chisora-Haye route in that case. Though IIRC that'd only work if they get their lincense revoked not banned, so I imagine the BBBOC would outright ban them. Which could pretty much be career ending for both of them. I really think that'd be a shame. Maybe more for Whyte since he's yet to do much and already had a (overly harsh IMO) ban. Chisora atleast has already had a pretty good career.

How could they go the Luxembourg route? Then the Joshua fight would be off. If the board suspend Chisora's licence, the fight is off. Notably it was only Eddie who was saying Robert Smith had agreed to separate weigh-ins, never saw anything with Robert Smith actually saying it.

Serves Hearn right if it gets cancelled. If he's constantly using 'beef' and pantomime violence to promote fights then he can't be surprised when some get well out of hand.

Good point bad as each other. I do think the standard of refs are quite good over here though. Obviously a couple really do let it down.

Exactly.

Just don't have them at the same press conference. He knew full well it was extremely volatile between them and any an absolute fool would not envisage something daft happened at the pressed. It's not like Delboy does not have previous for this.

Well we cannot have two men who hate each other and will be fighting each other getting all narky in the run up to it, how offensive. But it is ok for them to stand and punch the fck out of each other as long as they do it in an orderly and polite manner smh

If this sort of thing genuinely disgusts you, your life must be very, very easy. 'Disgusted' by a bit of push and shove? Really?

There is no way this fight is getting cancelled because of those shenanigans.

Maybe they should fight in separate rings.

Yeah it is a bit contrary.

However....last time I checked, throwing tables wasn't allowed in the ring.

They shouldn't even have to fight; they should just measure each one's man boobs & whoever has the smallest ones wins. :TU:

Controversy creates cash. More cash for the BBBoC.

Chisora threw a table. Haye landed a punch, and not for the first time....
