Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12 ... -avoid-him
Shannon Briggs says Anthony Joshua can rule the heavyweight division until the Briton gets to face the 45-year-old.
'The Cannon' arrived in Manchester for the final press conference between Joshua and Eric Molina, ahead of the IBF world heavyweight title fight, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Briggs admitted the Brit could become the best heavyweight in the world but warned, even at the age of 45, he will stop the Briton's rise to the top.
"I am super-impressed [with Joshua]," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"If Eddie Hearn keeps him away from me, I think he is the future of the division and I think he could have a long reign.
"I'm an old veteran. I am like Oliver McCall when he fought Lennox Lewis, so keep him away from me - which won't happen if he beats Wladimir Klitschko."
"I've been ordered the WBA heavyweight title fight. I am going to win that with a vicious KO then hopefully I'll get Joshua - or the winner of Joshua and Klitschko, if they can do a deal first.
"The champ is unstoppable. I am 45 and I am in the best shape of my life. The momentum is around the world, people are going 'Let's go champ!' and you can't beat that.
"That's positive energy and I'm feeling great."

..it's not even funny, not any more..
..guess he should urgently consult his shrink..
Re: Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
I bet Joshua would fight him if he got the WBA belt.

Re: Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
Wladimir Klitschko didn’t want to face Briggs because the American wasn’t even world-rated. Deontay Wilder cited the very same reasons.
David Haye says he didn’t want to face Shannon because the American expected mega-money, requiring a PPV for funding. The Brit also has better options, such as the Bellew fight and a shot at the WBO title.
So now Briggs is chasing Joshua, who himself has far bigger fish to fry, yet a few people that use this forum will inevitably insist that the IBF champ is ducking The Cannon.
Whilst it’s really good to have big personalities in this sport, with Briggs portraying himself as a very funny and likeable guy, what on earth has he achieved inside the ring to deserve fights against the names mentioned above?
Shannon “Let’s go champ!” Briggs hasn’t defeated a top thirty world-rated opponent for almost a decade and yet his sense of entitlement is astonishing!
I honestly haven’t got a clue as to the reason why the WBA have decided to award him a top five rating at heavyweight.

Briggs doesn't get a shot at a Title because he hasn't beaten a Top 40 ranked opponent in at least 5 or 6 years. Maybe 8. If he fights Joshua he gets blitzed whenever the f*ck AJ decides to end his night. Even if that's within the first 20 seconds.

Showmanship has to be based on reality otherwise its a sad joke. As others so astutely mentioned he hasn't beaten anyone in the top 50 in many many years.
Re: Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
Old boy attempts to earn "the big money", and noone should blame him because of that.
Joshua would be too much for him, but I feel he would be able to beat Chisora, Whyte, Martin, H. Fury, Price...even Ustinov and Pulev.......Still, he has got an excellent punch power...

He'd beat Charles Martin out of that list. Everyone else eats him alive. He's be Chisora's first big win.ValMar wrote:Old boy attempts to earn "the big money", and noone should blame him because of that.

I can not agree with you. Briggs' punch power is not worse than Haye's. Chisora would kiss the canvas....Price, too...punchoutsb wrote:He'd beat Charles Martin out of that list. Briggs would probably beat nobody you just named. Price or Charles Martin would be his best chances. Everybody else would beat him easy.ValMar wrote:Old boy attempts to earn "the big money", and noone should blame him because of that.

Re: Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
Chisora would win almost every round against Briggs. BRIGGS IS SHOT! Briggs is at least 15 years past his prime...he's not a threat to serious contenders anymore. No matter how much you wanna believe he is. Hell he knows it too, why do you think he doesn't bother earning a title shot? Because he can't! His only chance at a big payday is to talk sh*t and have one handed to him, if he actually has to beat somebody with a pulse to get a shot he's f*cked.ValMar wrote:I can not agree with you. Yes, he is old and shot, but you have to admit that he can punch. He can seriously hurt most of the aforementioned fighters. I don't consider him to be winner by decision, but he can KO majority of them.gilgamesh wrote:Chisora would win almost every round against Briggs. BRIGGS IS SHOT! Re: Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
I don't know that he can. I'd give it to you that he has power, but the thing that separates most of these guys from the chumps he's been knocking out for the last several years is that it usually takes more than one or two big punches to put them out, and they actually have a little defense which is why they're ranked.ValMar wrote:Yes, he is old and shot, but you have to admit that he can punch. It's not impossible he could do it, but I'd bet against him if he were to fight someone like Dereck Chisora with all the confidence in the world, and my opinion of Chisora couldn't be much lower as I don't think Chisora beats much of anybody of note, but I know he's durable enough to beat Briggs.

Briggs best chance is to KO anyone in the first few rounds, if he has to go past 4-5 rounds, he will lose. See how he immediately rushed his last opponent, he defo has power and them body shots would floor anyone. But he knows he can't last 12 rounds and win a decision.ValMar wrote:Yes, he is old and shot, but you have to admit that he can punch. He can seriously hurt most of the aforementioned fighters. Re: Shannon Briggs HIJACKS Antony Joshua Press Conference
I hear people saying Briggs is a bum and similar things, but if he's that easy to beat, then why does everyone avoid him?
By boxrec, Briggs is currently ranked higher as Hughie Fury, Arreola, Mansour, Wach, Gjergjaj, Chambers, Pianeta, Gary Cornish and name them. Then why do all those so named top contenders avoid him and fight all the other, lower ranked guys?
There's only one reason for that and that's fear. Wilder and Daffy are simply obviously scared of Briggs.

The people that avoid him have bigger fish to fry and bigger money fights awaiting them. The guys that would actually benefit from fighting Briggs, Briggs has no interest in fighting.asdfjkl wrote:I hear people saying Briggs is a bum and similar things, but if he's that easy to beat, then why does everyone avoid him?

He's not a scary guy to most Heavyweights of any note.
Arreola, Mansour, Wach, Hughie Fury would all beat Briggs. I haven't seen Briggs attempting to fight any of those guys.
You keep on believing that Briggs is a threat if you want, and I'll be here to give a hearty laugh when he gets his shot ass smoked like I know he will when he fights a decent Heavyweight. I'll be glad to see Briggs knocked out at this point, I'm sick of his BS, and the fact that's fooled anybody into thinking he's somebody anymore pisses me off.
Holyfield could come out of retirement next week and own Briggs for 12 rounds.

For any up comer, a win over Briggs would be big on their resumes.asdfjkl wrote:I hear people saying Briggs is a bum and similar things, but if he's that easy to beat, then why does everyone avoid him?

Just like now Pulev, he has Samuel Peter on his resume, a former world champion, doesn't matter when he fought him, or if he was shot, the fact that the name is there, it makes the resume more appealing.

Briggs
Why doesn't he face a top 35ish guy at least and start to win his way to bigger fights (he can still talk as much as he wants)? It's been a decade long bum of the month tour, barring the fight in which he was beaten into intensive care, which is a sign that despite the obstreperous blather he doesn't have confidence in himself.

Are you being serious? No one is avoiding Briggs. Shannon is now a sad joke.
