GGG - Jacobs may go to purse bid on 12/19 if no deal today

Post by apollo creed »

WBA president Gilberto Mendoza also confirmed to BS.com in an email Wednesday that assuming an agreement is not reached by Wednesday’s deadline, a purse bid for the Golovkin-Jacobs middleweight title fight will be scheduled for December 19 in Panama City, Panama, home of the WBA’s headquarters. Handlers for Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs), the WBA “super” middleweight champion, and Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs), the WBA world middleweight champion, would then have until December 19 to make a deal on their own, or that purse bid will take place, according to WBA guidelines.

I think Haymoon would push K2 to bid the most of the money for a bigger payday for Jacobs, if not Jacobs would be advised to drop that paper trinket like Quillin did.

I still reckon Haymon is gonna force the fight to a purse bid and then put in a high offer and win the bid- Golovkin will then have to drop the super title because he can't fight off of HBO. Time will tell though.

It could happen but I think K2 and HBO would find a way to let GGG fighting on SHO.

Haymon probably doesn't have the money anymore to do that kinda thing, and even if he does I doubt he has enough confidence in Jacobs winning to bother.

You missed my point mate. I was saying that if Haymon wins the purse bid- Golovkin will have to give up his belt (without even fighting) because he's contractually restricted to fighting on HBO. Danny wouldn't even have to get in the ring, let alone win.

Oh yeah I did miss that, yeah that sounds like something Haymon would try to pull, but Danny's title would be just as meaningless as it is now without actually taking it from the Champion.

True. They could try and spin it though and say that Danny was ready and willing to fight but Golovkin pulled out. Hardcore boxing fans won't buy it but the more casual boxing fan might.

At this point whether it's everybody ducking Golovkin or Golovkin ducking them I'm getting sick of the whole thing honestly. Golovkin is one of my favorite fighters, but if he doesn't fight a meaningful opponent somewhere along the line in 2017 I might actually start rooting for him to just lose to some no name...waiting forever for something to happen is getting old, and that seems to be all Boxing is anymore. "Yeah I know this fight ain't great, but wait until the next one"...then the next one is nothing special either.

Tell me about it mate lol. It's hard to think of a more frustrating sport to be a fan of to be honest. I'm finding myself getting more and more into mma aswell. The actual sport of boxing is still my first passion no doubt, but the rest of the never ending bullshit is just killing my enjoyment.

Casual fans outside of Brooklyn don't know who Danny is. Very few know who Golovkin is.

Yeah but im talking about the people who will sporadically tune into PBC shows on free to air TV or who might occasionally watch boxing on HBO or showtime.
