At AGM in Sydney on 29th October it was decided that for a 'trial period' of next 12 months, Australian
champions will also be allowed to hold a regional title. Decision to be reviewed at next AGM.
IMO,it will prove to be an unwise decision. Australian & Regional titles are incompatible.
Wait & see I guess. Next decision will be final - Constitution disallows matter be considered again.

Re: ANBF changes its policy re Regional titles
What the problem is and there could be other country's with the same problem [the regional title] in just about every weight class light or heavy the Current Australian Champion is almost never the best in that weight division because the top 3 or 4 in that weight class hold regional title's some don't even bother fighting for the Australian Title these day's because in this part of the world Regional belt's are the path way to being pushed or jumping in the deep end [bigger money fight's] how many good domestic fight's have we missed out on over the year's especially the Regional Title era I can remember fighter's like Aussie Lightweight Champ Barry Michael fight our best Jr Welter in Jeff Malcolm then a few year's later Michael fight's the Aussie Welterweight Champ Frank [The Tank] Ropis and both Malcolm and Ropis Challenged each other this rarely happens today we should have some sort of system that you have to somehow prove or win the Australian Title before you can fight for these Regional belt's.......I don't even know if something like that would work there would probably be a lot of legal action taken for restraint of trade or something similar or we could just go back to the old day's and hope that promoter's start to match our best with each-other before they take on the world.
Re: ANBF changes its policy re Regional titles
Problems existed when they could hold both titles e.g. :-
1. When challenged for Australian title & if they didn't want to fight the challenger, they would claim they couldn't do it 'cos they had Regional title in the works.
2. When challenged for Australian title while also Regional titlist in same weight class, they would wan't to defend both to earn extra $$$$, but challenger didn't want Regional nor would promoter cough-up coin for both.
3. If Aussie champ only defending Regional in same weight class gets done by fellow Aussie who at the time is rated #6, he has the right to claim Aussie title providing he or promoter pays ANBF sanction fee.
4. If immediate above happens, is it fair to sideline #1 to #5 who might also be only interested in Aussie title?
5. Then there's technical issue i.e. Some Regionals are contested over 12 and in the event of accidental injury (cut) they require to be contesting round 5 to go to scorecards, while Aussie title is over 10 and need to be contesting round 4 to go to scorecards.

Question:-
If you were Aussie champ contesting Regional title in same weight class over 12 & was well ahead on points at end of round 10, but walked into one in final 2 rounds, would you be happy to part with Aussie title?

Re: ANBF changes its policy re Regional titles
Johnny Famechon held the WBC, Empire & Australian Featherweight titles at the same time.
Lionel rose was undisputed World Bantamweight and Australian Bantamweight champion when he beat Alan Rudkin & took his Empire title.
nobody saw anything wrong with it.

Yeah! But none were bob-a-dozen Regional titlesBrute wrote:Johnny Famechon held the WBC, Empire & Australian Featherweight titles at the same time.

OPBF & Commonwealth/Empire opened doors to WBC 'cos both contributed to WBC's birth.
Re: ANBF changes its policy re Regional titles
In good old days, one had to work hard (anyone, anywhere, anytime) to earn a rating in one of the Majors. These days it's quite simple...e.g. Championship in most Regionals (beating a dud) will score a #10 rating in a Major with which Regional organisation is affiliated. Defend against another dud & rating will raise a notch or 2
Which in reality one is only helping to flog bob-a-dozen Regional shite
