Rewatched hagler vs minter 1980

Post by montrealsuper »

What a fantastic performance by hagler - such an intense fight and pre fight with the electric atmosphere - minter and hagler were both very jacked up for this and hagler was totally focused and overcame the pressure by boxing a masterpiece over a raging bull in minter - the fight was fast paced and all the punches were sharp and both fighters looked like masters - unlike today with all the posing and laziness and one shot at a time - too many fights today are in house set ups - so rare to have competing promoters risk their cash cows like hagler vs minter was - wonderful lively dramatic fight and just a genius performance by marvelous marvin over a totally inspired and ferocious minter who was simply outclassed

Marvelous made a butchery out of Alan Minter. After many years of frustrations, he reached to glory.

As the late great Harry Carpenter commented ' it's m for marvellous and it's m for marvin...and if you ask me it's m for murder'. Very true :TU:

That was one of Harry's best lines. I remember the fight well. Hagler was immense that night though Minter was slightly overrated back then.

Nonsense.

Minter was FAR from over rated. He simply came up against a guy that was a lot more than special. To our eternal shame some lowlife Brits ruined a great display of the noble art with their racist actions in the aftermath of the fight. I for one, would still apologise to ANY American I meet who wants to discuss boxing.
Does our eternal shame include Minters comments??
