Principles dont pay the bills and they dont entertain you. Hugely overrated things.
Perhaps, but I very much doubt tonight's card will particularly entertain you either. At the end of the day, this event isn't PPV worthy and isn't worth the money. 15 quid won't break my bank, but I'd rather not piss it away to Sky and Matchroom for this sort of card.
Thats good cause its £17 :TU:

Watching AND paying. Hoping my £17 contributes to keeping AJ humble.

I'm watching via the excellent Sprtsman1a addon, but I still feel that Sky are taking the piss with adverts inbetween rounds. If I was paying 35 a month for Sky Sports plus 16.95 for the event, I would expect NO ADS

Didn't buy the last Joshua fight and skipped this one too.

I'm interested in the results of course, hence why I'm staying up to listen on the radio but that's as much involvement as I need.

I went to a pub to watch, it was even more terrible in there than I'd expected, back home with my fishing net.

Its been well worth it so far...

Buglioni v Burton was excellent, Whyte v Chisora one of the best heavyweight contests in a good while, and great to see Kal Yafai capture the title in an impressive display.

If you missed this evening's card, you missed out.... simple as.

Are they not the kind of fights you expect to see as part of your standard subscription rather than for an additional £17?

Having just caught up on the UFC 206 from last night, I certainly don't feel like I've missed out on anything from a combat sports entertainment point of view.

Yet another memorable card filled with drama.

Individually perhaps yes.... but collectively on one card, no.

It's £17.... not £1,700, which is what you'd think it was listening to some folk harp on.

If you think it is about the price then you are missing the point. This is on top of what people pay to sky and boxing fans are now seeing British level fights being considered acceptable for ppv. How fans can justify it is beyond me.

Chris Eubank jnr is now going to be fighting on ppv, people buying crappy ppv's like this one, Bellew v Cleverly etc has shown tv channels that boxing fans are happy to keep on paying over the odds for less than mediocre fights

If people didn’t pay £6 for a pint in a London pub, they wouldn’t charge it. If people didn’t pay ridiculous prices to attend Premiership football matches, they wouldn’t cost what they do.

Good luck fighting against the tide of consumerism mate!

It’s all about the value proposition. If people think paying £17 to watch that boxing card was worth it, they will pay it. If not, they won’t.

My personal view is some of the undercard was superb….the main fight was a joke (which I knew in advance)…. but overall it was worth it.

I have certainly rinsed £17 in worse ways before now. Bought a train ticket recently?

That it piss all, most people on this forum will go out on Saturday night and spend £50 or £80 or not even know which one nor care but not spend £17 to watch the sport they spend time talking about, debating, writing about etc. Fcking stupid. Talk about being a martyr.

I could stream it, as I am sure tons will, but again why be such a knob and spend a night watching a shitty feed that is like watching a TV smeared in vaseline.

That's a poor comparison. It's not consumerism at all, it's people putting up with mediocrity because of ease. Nothing more nothing less.

I've no problem with paying for ppv when it is worthwhile. Same as i have no problem paying over the odds for a pint in London if i'm in the right venue . However, I wouldn't pay £6 a pint in some dive of a pub that had flat beer, shit staff and stinking, bogging toilets. Maybe i have standards.

I'm not sure if you've followed the news of late but football fans are also making a stand regarding prices as they are not happy with it. That's a lot different than purchasing ppv for each match, something which as mentioned on here, died on it's arse when they tried to implement it.

I buy train tickets a lot and i never feel rinsed by them. I can get a return to London from Coventry for between £12-20 if i book in advance. Same applies for most venues. If it works out more expensive i then have the option of choosing to travel by car if the petrol cost works out cheaper.

Of course i've wasted £17 on worse things but i'll still refuse to pay for boxing that doesn't need ppv

When you say you won’t pay £17 for boxing that “doesn’t need to be PPV” one could argue that no boxing EVER “needs” to be PPV, other than to meet the remuneration expectations of the parties involved.

Wayne Rooney doesn’t “need” to be paid £250,000 a week to jog round a football pitch, but that’s what he wants and what his club has agreed to pay him. The result is tickets need to be the exorbitant prices they are to compensate. You mention fans are now taking a stand. How exactly? By moaning and whining outside the ground, or holding up a sign in the stands, whilst still coughing up and attending matches. Why? Because when all is said and done they still think it’s worth paying and going.

When I see empty stadiums and bankrupt football clubs that’s when I’ll know fans have taken a stand.

Though I’m not privy to their conversations, I assume Joshua tells Hearn what he expects to now make from bouts and for that pay expectation to happen the PPV model comes into play. Then it’s over to us. We can either say “Foxtrot Oscar Sonny Jim, I’m not paying that” ….or behave like the aforementioned football fans, have a little moan, but ultimately cough up anyway to enjoy the action.

It goes without saying I would like all televised boxing to be free to air. Why the hell wouldn’t I? But in the real world you just have to form decisions over whether something represents value for what you’re being asked to pay for it.

You've not heard about the '20s plenty' aim from football fans or how Liverpool fans protested against ticket prices and we're successful.

You're still comparing apples and pears in terms of football and boxing. One has a regular viewing base where the best play the best at least twice a week and have an end goal. This generates ongoing interest and a TV audience.

Boxing fans are told someone is the best who never fights the best but due to the limited action he offers people are fleeced to see fighters in a mismatch.

People have said it before on here regarding the football comparison. If Manchester utd and man City claimed to be the best team in England let alone the world yet only played the likes of coventry or Fleetwood twice a year leaving their rivals well alone, they would struggle for a TV deal let alone ppv. In that scenario Rooney isn't on £300k a week
