McGuigan vs Pedroza - What were the odds?

Post by Abbo »

I was only about 16 at the time I think, but I swear it was priced up almost as a 50/50 fight.

Anyone recall?

Going by memory I think it was about 50/50. Maybe Barry was a very slight favorite in the UK, with a crowd of 25,000 behind him, elsewhere the champion would've been seen as a slight favorite I think.

Pedroza was seen pretty much like Tszyu was viewed before the Hatton fight. He didn't have the big punch, but he was a seasoned veteran of the 15 round distance.

I have only recently become familiar with Pedroza and am awaiting a dvd containing that particular match anyday in the mail. From the little info I've dug up pertaining to the favorite ( which I warn you is heresay from an old fight junkie) was even odds. If this dvd contains fight scores, I will send them your way.

Pedroza was favourite going in to the fight, did some research on it as a parallel to Hatton v Tszyu. Most papers picked Pedroza to win.
