Davies Jr Willie Limond
Davies Jr Willie Limond
A real good domestic clash to start off the new year.
Robbie Davies Jr defending his WBA Continental super-lightweight belt against Willie Limond at Preston Guild Hall on January 21st.
A good step up for Davies Jr, undercard to be announced soon as well.

Limond should have stayed retired after the Nurse fight. If he carries on its just going to be as an opponent. He had a great career at 37 he's nothing to prove.

Spot on
Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Hope Robbie gets a few breaks next year - he's ready
Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Just announced for this undercard, Jack Arnfield vs. Mick Hall in a rematch, another good fight.
Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Can't believe Robbie is not signed by any of the big promoters. He's quality.
Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Yeah totally agree. I was a big fan of both Limond and Arthur when they fought and I remember being torn! That seems an eternity ago now!maley1984 wrote:ShadrachSimmo wrote:Limond should have stayed retired after the Nurse fight. If he carries on its just going to be as an opponent. I think Nathan Wheatley is on this card too. Who's promoting it?

Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Great talent Willie Limmond but he has always had an issue with making weight. Read one story about making weight in his kitchen with the gas cookers on almost lost consciousness.
You have to look at his 5 losses all world class operators and i strongly believe Tyrone Nurse will grab a world title so no shame in admitting defeat to the better man.

Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Liked what I saw of Robbie when he was on Sky a couple of times a year or 2 back but haven't caught any of his recent fights. He was managed/promoted by Coldwell wasn't he?

You reckon?ChessBoxer wrote:i strongly believe Tyrone Nurse will grab a world title.
I'd be surprised if he goes far beyond his current level. Solid domestic level, maybe European and at best challenge for a world strap but I don't see him as being a world level operator.
Good boxer and his hieght is a useful advantage but his lack of pop worries me if he steps up
Hope to be proved wrong of course

Euro level is above were Robbie is at and world challenger is above that?
He's had enough pop in his punches to stop the last few opponents mate, u seem to be contradicting yourself

Sorry misread that lol
Tyronne has done excellently, I remember being laughed at when I said he'd win the British

I was talking about Tyrone and I wasn't trying to disrespect the lad, hope he goes on to fight at the highest level, I've enjoyed a couple of his fights and he's got talent.billy nelson wrote:Sorry misread that lol

But as ever there's a limit to every talent and I just don't think his limit is World class. He lack punch power and for all he has ability and some obvious physical advantages I don't see him as being talented enough to go a great deal further than where he is now
I'm not sure if you picked me up wrong when you say I'm contradicting myself.
"He's domestic level" (no doubt about that, he's defended his British tiotle a couple times against other good British level guys)
"He's maybe European level", there's a chance he could go on to lift a European title
"and at best challenge for a world strap" if he can reach European level, then managed right he could be steered to a shot, but I think that's definitely a maybe and I don't see him as being good enough to win a world title.
Again, It's just my opinion and I sincerely hope I'm wrong on that one and you and ChessBoxer are right, but I doubt it.

Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Gutted that Limond has pulled out but in all honesty its probably for the best,i too would've liked to have seen him retire after the Nurse fight,Zoltan Szabo steps in and truth be told at this present time might be a more competitive fight than the Limond one
I haven't seen much of Davies Jr but ive been hearing about him for a while(wasn't his Dad an Olympian?) undefeated, seems to carry a bit of power, Szabo is a tough cookie though, absolutely creased Ormond with that body shot and pushed him close in the rematch too,he also got stopped on cuts to Ohara Davies, no doubt he'll be coming to win, he's done the 10 round distance a couple of times so this is a step up for Davies Jr who's record so far is pretty thin but he's at the stage now where he needs this step up and Szabo might be able to provide more resilience than this version of Limond
Looking forward to the Arnfield/Hall rematch too, Hall was very unlucky not to get the nod in Prizefighter

Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Watch Szabo in this fight. He'll enter the ring totally unconcerned and with a very tight defence. Szabo will seek out openings and if he gets half a chance he'll go for it.
I've seen both his fights with Ormond. The first was a stunner given that everybody thought Szabo was a typical Eastern European loser. In the second fight Ormond was much more careful and I'd have scored it a draw.
If Davies stops Szabo it'll be a major achievement .

It's a decent card and a good start from ITV.
Arnfield and hall have previous as mentioned above and should make for a good fight and an even better atmosphere.Theres some local talent on show aswell with mulling mark jeffers fighting on the bill.

Re: Davies Jr Willie Limond
Anyone know the reason for Limond pulling out?ive heard some weird reasons but no official line..
Good to see Atif Shafiq out on this card, always quite impressive whenever Ive seen him.Hes no boxed in over 12 months though presume hes been injured?
Also would have been good to have seen Eddie throw Scott Fitzgerald on this.Im not sure if hes out on one of these matchroom cards coming up but ive not heard him fighting since Goodison. With it being a bit of a smaller show so as not to dissapear down the card at 6pm,televised and in his hometown.

He's been kept active and fought twice since Goodson park but he will most definitely want to improve on his last outing at liverpools echo arena when he was put on his backside .
