So by your reasoning. Frazier beat Ali.
Foreman destroyed Frazier
So Foreman would automatically destroy Ali.
It doesn't work that way.
I had Fury #1 after beating Klit.
It's been over a year Fury is retired either by suspension or his own choice it doesn't matter.
Fury is not in the equation at this time.
If and when Fury retires we will have to see what he has left.
At this time Joshua has not done near enough in my view to be considered #1.
Klitschko is about 183 years old and has not looked dominant in a couple of years. So a win by Joshua over Klit may look great on paper. It still will not convince me that Joshua is the real champ.

AJ is the best HW prospect out there right now, if he's still a prospect. Don't see how he's that similar to Tyson.

Tyson went on to beat a higher calibre of opponent in Thomas, Tucker, Holmes, Tubbs, Spinks and Bruno, better than anyone Joshua has faced
There's no guarantee, none what so ever, that AJ could have swept through that impressive crowd
He came unstuck against Douglas, that's a given
but aside from that, his next defeats were past his prime against Holyfield and Lewis, there isn't even a fighter on the planet right now that compare with those two, for AJ to attempt to prove himself against.
Is Joshua better than Tyson? Time may prove that he is but I'd be doubtful.
But there is no way any boxing fan can confidently state, right now, that he IS better. He just hasn't done anything to prove it

You say he got beat by holyfield when he was past his prime? He was 30 and holyfield was going against doctors orders cause of a hole in his heart, sorry past his prime doesnt cut it with me,he was in his prime he was world champion and stayed in the sport for about 10 years after it so dont gimme that son. Tyson was blowing people away as is AJ,tyson's early years were impressive but do me a favour, please look at the fighters he fought and check their record as and when he fought them, they wernt all that great, thomas was past his best tucker was a good boxer but later got banged out by every tom d1ck and harry tubbs is the new poster guy for greggs pasties holmes was in retirement and boxed tysons head off for the first 3 rounds, tyson couldnt do anything with his ram rod jab plus when the final knock down came holmes arm got caught on the rope,oh and he was past his prime. I get a bit touchy sometimes
I know Tyson wasn't as good as the hype that sometimes surrounded him but I think it's far to early to be putting Joshua above him, he was still a fantastic talent and his early achievements still eclipse Joshuas early CV
Christ, he'd unified the division by 21 years old. Joshua has picked up one vacant title against a quitter
Re: Anthony Joshua Will Rule The Boxing World With Iron Fist!
You have to admit that opportunity fell into Tyson's lap in an unbelievable way. He had the greatest matchmaker in the history of Boxing behind him. A guy who took the smallish, hittable, and squared up Heavyweight, Floyd Patterson, to the Heavyweight Title almost as lightning fast as he did Tyson -- and then he kept Patterson away from Liston for many years. Not everybody can maneuver, match, and manage your career so cleanly. So I think both Patterson and Tyson were lucky to have Cus.davie wrote:I know Tyson wasn't as good as the hype that sometimes surrounded him but I think it's far to early to be putting Joshua above him, he was still a fantastic talent and his early achievements still eclipse Joshuas early CV. I prefer to look at what Patterson and Tyson had underneath all the hype and good fortune they enjoyed in their careers.. Tyson was a little squared up.. He was very beatable by a big, tall, long limbed, strong, very powerful punching, athletic, smart and skilled Heavyweight with a tremendous work ethic such as Anthony Joshua.. Joshua is a very clever boxer and Tyson wasn't particularly.. If you look at the Smith, Ruddock, and Tucker fights Mike plodded around the ring a lot, trudging around like it wasn't a lot of fun. It's something Douglas noticed.
BTW, I always thought Buster Douglas had good intelligence and good basic boxing skills. He had excellent height, reach, and size for a Heavyweight of his day. He never put any of that to the best use.. He slid along with less than a half effort until the Tyson fight was dumped into his lap.. You can't say Buster earned his title shot. Or that anybody but about 15 people expected him to do well.. Joshua has many of the same assets Douglas had in smarts, size, physique, and athleticism, but combines that with an unbelievable work ethic like the Klitschkos. He's mentally a lot stronger than Tyson -- just like Lewis and Holyfield were. Those guys knew from day one Mike would break. Tough guys put up a facade. It's all BS.
Tyson worked hard, but he needed a tough taskmaster. Lewis and Holyfield never needed one. Neither does Joshua. They screwed around as much as Tyson did, but they didn't need a commanding trainer telling them it was time to go to work. They made sure everything was in place and they had all the people they needed. Tyson didn't do that as well. Holyfield screwed around more than anybody, but also worked harder than anybody.

So wait...you're discussing people ranking Fury #1 off one win but you have Father Time ranked number one off zero?????Rob3_142 wrote: He is, but for the sake of making a point. As far as I'm concerned, based on current events, I will rely on the BoxRec rankings to give me some kind of indication of who lies where, and that currently is Ortiz as #1, and Joshua #2

When you say 'Father Time', do you mean Ortiz? Ortiz took wins against Scott, Thompson and Jennings in 3 of his last 4 outings, which is arguably better than anyone else recently. Joshua has wins against Molina, Breazeale and Martin which is okay-ish, but not as good as Ortiz. Outside of that, there is pretty slim pickings.punchoutsb wrote:So wait...you're discussing people ranking Fury #1 off one win but you have Father Time ranked number one off zero?????Rob3_142 wrote: He is, but for the sake of making a point. I'm just confused: are you saying beating timid Malik Scott, 45 year old Tony Thompson, and Bryant Jennings make you the number one heavyweight???? Luis Ortiz has one decent win; Bryant Jennings. Heck Povetkins last four craps all over that list. If Tyson Fury is truly retired then there is no clear number one heavyweight based on resume. So if we're basing it off the "look" test then 65 year old Ortiz shouldn't be in the top five...or ten.Rob3_142 wrote:When you say 'Father Time', do you mean Ortiz? Povetkin's lack of activity removes him from contention for me. He hasn't fought in 13 months, so he joins Klischko and Fury in the inactive club.punchoutsb wrote:I'm just confused: are you saying beating timid Malik Scott, 45 year old Tony Thompson, and Bryant Jennings make you the number one heavyweight???? As much as I do not rate Scott myself, his UD win over Thompson does raise his stock, and as ugly as the fight was, he did manage to take Ortiz 12 rounds. Out of fighters that have fought in the last 12 months, who has a better resume than Ortiz?

Joshua has wins against Molina, Breazeale and Martin which is okay-ish, but not as good as Ortiz. Outside of that, there is pretty slim pickings.
As much as I do not rate Scott myself, his UD win over Thompson does raise his stock, and as ugly as the fight was, he did manage to take Ortiz 12 rounds. Out of fighters that have fought in the last 12 months, who has a better resume than Ortiz?
If Ortiz resume is based off of ancient Tony, no-hoper Scott, and B-level Jennings then I'd rate Wilder, AJ, Parker, possibly Pulev, heck you could even make a case for Lucas Browne and Johann Duhaupas having better wins. Ortiz just fought Dave Allen...that should tell you pretty much all you need to know.
