Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook. May 2017 [in talks]

Post by Rob3_142 »

So these two could finally get it on. Khan still thinks he's too big of a name for Brook, but I personally think he's too big for his own boots.

Khan will slap Brook like his family slap his wife.

(actually he will get his head unscrewed and I will take pleasure in it. Although nowadays he's had more hammer than his webcam and a glancing jab will probably send him crashing down.)

This won't happen anytime soon. Khan only fought seven months ago.

He won't be ready for another year or two

Why do people dislike Khan so much?

I've always liked watching him. He comes to fight, is offensive and has potential to be knocked out. Fun to watch :)

Aside from Brook has he ever really dodged anyone? And up until the last 18 months or so Brook was high risk/low reward so made sense not to fight him.

He's not as good as he thinks he is but he's a game fighter and exciting to watch so I don't really get the ill feeling towards him

I think you'll find people disliking every fighter, Mr Star81.

I like Khan & pretty much agree with everything you've said above. But his career does seem to be what could have been, even though he's had a very good & exciting one. By the time he fights again he would have only had four fights in four years. And these were his prime years.

I know some people didn't like him early on because he was a brown Muslim kid with a Northern accent & that reminded them of a certain Prince from Sheffield. I'm not saying anyone on here thinks like that but I've come across plenty who didn't like him from the off.

I personally was a massive fan of Khan, especially back at the start of his pro career. Was a massive fan when he was an amateur, and thought he was going to go on to be a household name.

Unfortunately the general dislike for him (which I now fall into that bracket) is pretty self inflicted. He has this superiority complex which stipulates that Brook isn't 'a big enough name' for him, which is absolutely preposterous. Have you're arse handed to you by someone two divisions above you because you're only good enough for big names, is in my opinion, stupid. I don't know what it is he's after out of this game. It doesn't seem to be belts, it doesn't seem to be money (might be money a little bit - but I think Matchroom would pay well), maybe it's fame?

I don't know, but moving out to the States and fighting less than once a year is definitely alienating his home fans.

I think Brook just wants the million pound purses now. This is a duck of Spence if he doesn't fight him. Up there with Burns inability to make weight for Broner but having no problems with the other Latvians he fought beforehand a few years back

Khan does seem to want the adulation of US fans more than he does the UK fans, hence he avoided Brook as he, in his eyes, was high risk for little reward - the not being a big enough name was just the public line to dismiss the fight.

I'm not going to credit the race issue as being a primary reason generally, whilst accepting it is for a minority.

If Brook avoids Spence to fight Khan will he start to be disliked?

As for the potential fight. Khan UD or Brook KO - I'm leaning towards Brook KO as Khan doesn't seem to be smart enough to stay out of range.. then again..that's why I like him :)

Yeah I'd watch it but it's lost a bit of appeal for me as well. I'm interested to see what Kell has left after his first setback but Khans best days are well behind him now.

To be fair, Brook has wanted Khan for a very long time, so it's nothing new. It's been almost obsessive his pursuit of Khan. I would be happy to see him fight Khan, and then fight Spence afterwards. Brook isn't a one fight a year kind of guy, so we could see them meet in the summer, or autumn at latest.

Surely with Spence as his mandatory, if he fights anyone else, he vacates the title. That would be a fight at 160lbs, then avoiding Spence again to fight khan, he can't hold the belt ransom

He could offer Spence step aside money I suppose, but with the option of waiting for Brook or fighting a nobody for a vacant title, Spence will take the belt.
Meanwhile, I reckon Brook sees the payday vs Khan, who as you said has been his long term target and lets the title slide.
If he takes Khan out, he can get another title shot of his own afterwards probably at 154lbs. I didn't think 147 was a great idea for him anyway and the only reason he'd come back down was Khan or perhaps if a big payday was on offer through a unification against one of the big names in America.

It probably suits both parties, as Spence can now pick up the title against someone like Jeff Horn, Andre Berto, Bradley Skeete or Konstantin Ponomarev and enjoy a fairly long, successful and lucrative reign as champion
