Double-checking. We'll get back to you. (Although I entered this bout, based upon a newspaper source I cannot remember off-hand -- almost two years after entering it -- our Arizona Editor, $Bill, informs me that he will visit his local library next week to research the local newspaper to confirm which "Kid McCoy" this was.)

Our Arizona researcher/Editor checked the papers at his library and could not find this bout. So, we'll delete it. (As soon as I can log-on. The record page seems to be "down" at the moment.) I cannot remember where I found it in the first place, and why I'd even put it in McCoy's record. I was a puppy Editor" at the time is my excuse. :-? Good catch.

Well, I located my notes -- finally. The source was The Seattle Daily Times, Feb. 12, 1922. So, I went back to the library and looked up the newspaper once again. Sure enough, there it was, in black & white. Big headline: KID MCCOY KNOCKS OUT TOM GIBBONS IN EIGHTH. And about a 12-paragraph description of this bout in Phoenix, Arizona. However, this time I noticed a little text box to the right of the article: "This is the seventh in a series describing mythical fights between boxers who never have met...."
Douh! :-?
