Thats a good point on the jabbing Seamus. Really shows the value of being an absolute master jabber. Another good example is Vargas, whose jab was fine but totally shut down by de la Hoya's.

4. 9-10
5. 10-9
6. 9-10
7. 10-9
8. 10-10
9. 10-9 (another that could have been 10-8 but Monshipour would not be deterred)

6. 10-9
7. 9-10

11. 9-10
12. 10-9
13. 10-9
14. 10-9
15. 10-8

142-140 Chacon

The most telling late punch (Short of a KO) I've ever seen in a fight.
Felt Chacon deserved it over all.

Chacon Vs Mancini

1. 9-10
2. 9-10
3. TKO

Chacon vs Boza Edwards II

1. 10-8
2. 10-8
3. 8-10
4. 10-9
5. 10-9
6. 9-10
7. 9-10
8. 9-10
9. 10-9
10. 10-9
11. 9-10
12. 10-8

114-110 Chacon

Not sure I've scored that very well. The first 2 rounds were Boza-Edwards rounds till the knock down, some of the middle rounds were among the toughest to score rounds I've watched, back and forth action all the way.
The commentary seemed to be watching a different fight to me.

What a bloody warrior Bobby Chacon was though!

The Boza-Edwards-Chacon fight is difficult to score. I didn't score the first two rounds 10-8 for Chacon even though he scored knockdowns. In both rounds, Boza-Edwards was having a very good round until the knockdown. There were several other rounds in this fight that were very close. A great fight.

I'm pretty sure I could score the fight differently if I watched it again.
The Chacon vs Boza & Limon fights as well as Sithchatchawaln vs Monshipour were hard to score at times. Simply because there was so much going into rounds, so many punches to take account of, leather flying and you're sitting trying to constantly evaluate who's ahead in the round when all you want to do is sit back and marvel at the action playing out in front of you.

Lewis vs Holyfield 1

1. Lewis
2. Lewis
3. Lewis (Lederman gave him this round but I felt Lewis had controlled the majority barring a few Holyfield raiding attacks)
4. Lewis
5. Lewis
6. Lewis
7. Lewis
8. Lewis
9. Lewis
10. Holyfield
11. Lewis
12. Lewis

I never scored it when I watched it first time round but felt Lewis was easily about 4 rounds ahead
I'm sure I've watched it since but don't think I scored it but I don't remember thinking it was this wide, I barely gave Holyfield the 10th. I re-watched the 3rd but don't feel Holyfield did enough to nick it, I could have scored it 10-10.
there were a couple later rounds that Lederman gave Holyfield that I considered giving 10-10, but I think I was being swayed by the commentary and after round analysis, I just felt Lewis was always in control

I have perhaps given this a touch wider than I should, Evander doesn't get a lot of credit for a good effort but that's how I called it.

I remember feeling sick at the result at the time but I think, viewing it again and scoring it, that was one of the most corrupt decisions and one of the most high profile and blatant robberies I've ever seen

2. 10 - 9 Vargas
3. 9 - 10 Salido

5. 10 - 9 Vargas
6. 10 - 9 Vargas

9. 10 - 10 even
10. 10 - 9 Vargas
11. 9 - 10 Salido
12. 9 - 10 Salido

114-115 Salido

No one deserved to lose that fight but I just felt Salido did enough to nick it

One of my favourite fighters of the last few years and the definition of a warrior in the ring
Credit to Vargas, he didn't look as though this was the type of fight he wanted (I've never watched him before to say what his usual style actually is) but he looked like he would have rather boxed more. But Salido is one of those guys that does everything he can to make you fight his fight. Vargas competed well through out

Worthy fight of the year contender

I'm surely doing Julian Jacksons career a disservice here, you watch him to see him knock guys over and I've watched him twice today and haven't seen him put anyone on their ass

Bloody impressive displays by McCallum and McClellan though.

What a great knock out in this fight. Getting up from a couple low blows to take him out like that :salut:

9. 9 - 10 McCallum another fantastic round
10. 10 - 9 Toney
11. 9 - 10 McCallum
12. 10 - 9 Toney

115-113 Toney

Great finishing round, McCallum winning it early to tie it on my card but Toney hurt him and McCallum did well to stay on his feet.
Close on my card but Toney definitely won it for me, his rounds were clearer with more power punches and I suspect the knockdown in the second should have stood as Toney landed a heavy left hook just before McCallums momentum took him down

Great fight

Couple of Brian Mitchell fights

Brian Mitchell vs Tony Lopez II

R1.10-9 BM
R2.10-9 BM
R3.10-9 TL
R4.10-9 TL
R5.10-9 BM
R6.10-9 BM
R7.10-9 BM
R8.10-9 BM
R9.10-9 BM
R10.10-9 BM
R11.10-9 BM
R12.10-9 TL

Brian Mitchell 117-111

Mitchell just too busy for the harder punching Lopez.

Brian Mitchell vs Felipe Orozco

Brian Mitchell 99-93
Orozoc won the 9th and the 4th and 10th were even, Mitchell won the rest pretty much on aggression alone.

Mitchell shares the same strengths as Dariusz Michalczewski and Myung Woo Yuh. The three were not flashy, had no particularly outstanding skills, but there combination of durability and high work rate won them alot of fights.

Oscar De La Hoya vs Ike Quartey

R1.10-9 OD
R2.10-9 OD
R3.10-9 OD
R4.10-10 Even
R5.10-9 IQ
R6.10-9 IQ (both fighters down but Quartey has the better of the rd)
R7.10-9 IQ
R8.10-9 IQ
R9.10-9 IQ
R10.10-9 OD
R11.10-10
R12.10-8 OD

Oscar De La Hoya 115-114

First time I watched it in it's entirety since I scored it live and had it about the same. Oscar made a good start, but after Quartey dropped him in the 6th with a short left counter, he began neglecting his jab and instead tried to slip Quartey's and counter. Not possessing the head movement of a Pernell Whitaker this cost him several rds as he became an easy target for the Ghanian. This was not a great fight, but it certainly wasn't boring either.

Oscar De La Hoya vs Fernando Vargas

R1.10-9 FV
R2.10-9 OD
R3.10-9 FV
R4.10-9 OD
R5.10-9 FV
R6.10-10
R7.10-9 OD
R8.10-9 OD
R9.10-9 FV
R10.10-9 OD

Oscar De La Hoya TK0 11 (ahead 96-95 at the time)

Gutsy performance from Oscar who got overpowered by the stronger Vargas, anytime this fight went to the ropes, but this time he figured out quicker what not to do.

Felix Trinidad vs Fernando Vargas

R1.10-7 FT
R2.10-9 FT
R3.10-9 FT
R4.10-7 FV (knockdown and pt deduction)
R5.10-9 FV
R6.10-9 FT
R7.9-9 Even (pt deduction from Trinidad who would have won the rd)
R8.10-9 FT
R9.10-9 FT
R10.10-8 FT
R11.10-9 FT

Felix Trinidad KO 12 (ahead 104-99)

Quite alot already said about this fight so I'll just add, the biggest reason I rate Tito above Oscar was that at 147 and 154, any man who stepped in the ring with him was always one punch away from being in serious trouble.

The 3 Gerry's challenge

Frazier vs Jerry Quarry 1

1. 9 - 10 Quarry
2. 9 - 10 Quarry
3. 10 - 9 Frazier
4. 10 - 9 Frazier
5. 10 - 9 Frazier
6. 10 - 9 Frazier
7. 10 - 9 Frazier

Not sure this was a FOTY. But a good hard scrap regardless.

I've said before, if I were a boxer, if there was one man in the history of boxing I wouldn't have liked to share a ring with, it's Joe Frazier
Must be sickening trying to deter him

Holmes vs Gerry Cooney

1. 10 - 9 Holmes
2. 10 - 8 Holmes
3. 9 - 10 Cooney
4. 9 - 10 Cooney
5. 9 - 10 Cooney
6. 10 - 9 Holmes
7. 9 - 10 Cooney
8. 9 - 10 Cooney
9. 10 - 10 Even (-2 for low blows)
10. 9 - 10 Cooney
11. 10 - 9 Holmes (-1 for low blow)
12. 10 - 9 Holmes
13. The trainer probably did the right thing here, Cooney just didn't seem to want to go down but his legs were gone.

I had this one pretty much a pick em fight if it had been a 12 rounder. Holmes the more hurtful when he got his right hand through but Cooney fought the better fight for me. Take away the low blows and I've got it level at 114-114.
The ref wasn't very obvious taking those points away, I wouldn't have noticed if the commentary didn't mention it.

Anyone else think Cooney looks a bit like Tyson Fury?
Tall, ungainly, awkward punching style, claims to be Irish, a soft build and crap 80's short (Gerry has an excuse for that though)

Weaver vs Gerrie Coetzee

1. 10 - 9 Coetzee
2. 10 - 10 Even
3. 10 - 9 Coetzee
4. 10 - 9 Coetzee
5. 10 - 9 Coetzee
6. 9 - 10 Weaver
7. 9 - 10 Weaver
8. 10 - 8 Coetzee
9. 10 - 9 Coetzee
10. 10 - 9 Coetzee (can I deduct points from Coetzee for holding, this is shocking)
11. 9 - 10 Weaver
12. 9 - 10 Weaver
13. Thank god that's finished

Well the commentry was poor, Angelo Dundee in particular was hard work to listen to. The referee had an absolute howler.
Mr Coetzee is officially my least favoutire of the 3 Gerryse challenge
But to top it all Weaver is one of the worst champions I've watched.
Everytime I watch one of those fights for the WBA heavyweight crown, between Ali losing it in 77 and Tyson picking it up ten years later, I understand more and more, why people complained about the lack of competition for Larry Holmes. What a poor bunch they were

Sorry to keep boring you with this shit but here are 3 of Gerry/Jerry/Gerries best wins

Jerry Quarry vs Floyd Patterson II
1. 9 -10 Patterson
2. 10 - 8 Quarry (I had Patterson winning narrowly prior to KD)
3. 10 - 9 Quarry
4. 10 - 8 Quarry
5. 9 -10 Patterson
6. 10 - 9 Quarry
7. 9 -10 Patterson
8. 9 -10 Patterson
9. 9 -10 Patterson
10. 9 -10 Patterson
11. 9 -10 Patterson
12. 9 -10 Patterson

112-114 Patterson. I think if I'd scored it using the old system it would have been wider as I would only have given 1 point for the second round.
Poor decision and the crowd didn't seem happy.
Concerned about a 22 year olds engine when he slows up after the half way mark and I wouldn't say Floyd was setting the hardest pace.
Again, not the ideal comparison to use to see how Quarry would deal with a tall, heavy handed boxer with a good jab like Cooney but I wasn't massively impressed with him here. I'd chosen this one because a win against Petterson, even a faded Patterson is a solid win. But I couldn't give him that one.
Floyd was quite easy on the eye. Think thios was the first I'd watched him in a fight that went past the 6th round and he had a nice style, I'll take in a few of his fights from his younger days, I think he's a fighter I could quite enjoy watching

Gerry Cooney vs Jimmy Young
1. 10 - 9 Cooney
2. 10 - 10 Even
3. 10 - 9 Cooney
4. 10 - 8 Cooney. Ref should have stepped in and stopped that. Young wasn't only fighting blind he was close to going over.

Unlike Patterson, Cooney most certainly does not have a aesthetically pleasing style. But it's effective.
Only Shavers could stop a novice Young, who had gone the distance with many many top fighters. They kept saying Cooney had no right hand but he seemed to have power in both, his right looked awkward but heavy. Watched the Ron Lyle and Ken Norton fights too. Okay both were done but there was obvious power in Cooneys shots

I can't agree with you fellows I'm afraid.
The biggest fight was between the ref and Coetzee as he spent every round wrestling his gloves off the ropes.

I started watching Coetzee vs Dokes last night to add to that last post. But I got interupted.
It had started promisingly but the 3rd and 4th were a couple of the worst rounds I've ever witnessed, eye-bleedingly bad. But I think it was the 5th, Coatzee got the knockdown and then just as it started to look interested, I got dragged away.

I'll re watch the whole thing tonight and add my score card but I strongly suspect Dokes could be putting a strong challenge in to Weaver and Charles Martin just shortly

Round 8: 10-9 Marquez
Round 9: 10-9 Marquez
Round 10: 9-9 Even (scored for Marquez but dubious call for a low blow cost JMM 1 point)
Round 11: 9-9 Even (again scored for Marquez but another dubious call for a low-blow for another point)
Round 12: 10-9 Marquez

Total: 118-110 Marquez

I just don't know what fight the judges were looking at. Chris John mounted no attack at all. The only thing I can think of was the Indonesian audience had an effect, because they screamed at everything John threw - even when he missed.

Not sure how Ed Klein had this 70-50, I remember this being more one sided but it really was quite competitive up until the last 4 rounds, even in the 11th, where Jake took an almighty beating he started the round off with a big assault on Robinson

Is this the only complete footage of a fight between the 2?

12. Heartbreaking stoppage, hard to argue against the ref, who didn't know the time and could see he was gone but for the viewer knowing there's 2 seconds left, that was painful to watch

I could have scored the 2nd and 4th to Taylor, I felt he was winning but Chaves did enough to nick a share.
I never had Chaves ahead in a round up to and including the halfway point in round 10. Fantastic performance and very fortunate for Chaves

Scored the first Julio Caesar Chavez-Frankie Randall fight today. Here we go, 10 point must system in effect.

Round 1: 10-9 Randall
Round 2: 10-9 Randall
Round 3: 10-9 Randall
Round 4: 10-9 Chavez
Round 5: 10-9 Chavez
Round 6: 10-9 Chavez
Round 7: 10-9 Randall (scored it an even round but Chavez lost a point for a low-blow)
Round 8: 10-9 Randall
Round 9: 10-10 Even
Round 10: 10-9 Chavez
Round 11: 10-7 Randall (Randall scores a knockdown and Chavez loses a point for another low-blow)
Round 12: 10-9 Chavez

Total: 115-112 Randall

Can't believe one of the judges tried to steal this from Randall.
