Roman Gonzalez to rematch Carlos Cuadras in March

At the WBC 54th Convention in Miami, a mandatory update was given for each division as the World Boxing Council prepare for the New Year.

Gonzalez has confirmed that he will have the rematch with No. 1 ranked Carlos Cuadras of Mexico in March. 'Chocolatito' and Cuadras shared twelve entertaining rounds back in September and were due to meet again earlier in 2017 until Gonzalez lost his trainer Arnulfo Obando suddenly at the age of 54.

They were originally planning to fight earlier in 2017 however the fight was pushed back after the death of Gonzalez’s head trainer Arnulfo Obando.

Gonzalez was also named the WBC fighter of the year during the convention, having successfully defend his WBC flyweight title in April against McWilliams Arroyo before moving up in weight to take on then-unbeaten Cuadras.

More details of the return will be made public soon. The winner must then make a mandatory defense against No. 2 ranked Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand in his next fight.
