Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
Hi,
Is Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion? He vacated all titles but the Ring Mag. still got him as Champion in their Ratings!
What's going on? I know he remains Lineal Champ as long as he is not beaten in the ring or retires but what about the Ring Mag title?
Answers are welcome! Thanks a lot!!

Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
The Ring Magazine basically is the Lineal Title. Lineal titles kinda cease to matter when the Champion doesn't defend it.

I understand what you're saying, but they're different. Stevenson was stripped of his Ring title, but remains the Lineal champion. Still the man who beat the man.gilgamesh wrote:The Ring Magazine basically is the Lineal Title. Lineal titles kinda cease to matter when the Champion doesn't defend it.
Also, don't Ring usually strip you if you don't fight a top 5 ranked fighter in 12 months?

I don't know. I don't follow Ring Magazine's title situation as closely as I used to.Ruthless-RKO wrote:I understand what you're saying, but they're different. Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
As it looks to me, Fury remains Lineal champ until he loses in the ring or he officially retires.
The title situation is really confusing and it's hard to stay up to date.
I thought when he vacated the WBA & WBO titles, The Ring Mag title is vacant too, but I guess according to the ratings he is still
Ring Mag and Lineal Champion.

I think of Michael Spinks, when he was stripped of all titles, but remained the Linear/RING champion until Mike Tyson defeated him. I imagine, the situation remains the same, considering Fury is already back in training and is expected to come back in 2017.

You need to read The Ring’s rules, which you can view yourself by simply scrolling to the bottom of the heavyweight divisional rankings page. The effort is minimal.danundisputed wrote:Hi,

Tyson Fury has not retired, he has scheduled multiple fights in his weight class over the last 18 months and whilst he has tested positive for a banned substance, it wasn’t performance enhancing.
So when I personally review the seven criteria that The Ring cites as reasons for losing ownership of their title, Tyson Fury hasn’t contravened any of the seven situations that they list.

Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid he tested positive for it in February 2015 and it was only made public in June this year.
It's what Luis Ortiz tested positive for

Also, The Ring magazine recognized Ali as HW champ right up until 1970 when Muhammad then announced his retirement
when he thought he'd never get his licence back.
The Ring seems to be fair minded & pure in that sense, so it wouldn't surprise me if they still had Fury as the champion.

Tyson and Hughie Fury were both charged with using that PED, but guilt hasn't been ascertained.Naandrew wrote:Enlightened-One wrote:You need to read The Ring’s rules, which you can view yourself by simply scrolling to the bottom of the heavyweight divisional rankings page. Tyson Fury is only guilty of taking cocaine.
Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
I should think that as long as fury fights a respectable opponent next year he should keep his status as champ, both with the ring and morally.
Canelo, on the other hand, really should be stripped of his middleweight champ status by ring & have it handed to ggg. When he ducked his mandatory obligation to fight ggg that was the moment any doubt was sealed as to who was the real champ.

Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
So I guess according to the Ring Mag site he's still Ring Magazine champion, cause they didn't strip him, right?
What about the Lineal title, it is still the man who beat the man, right according to Cyberboxingzone they say
Fury lineal champion 2015-2015 stripped, retired, so what now?

Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
The Ring Magazine belt isn't even a title that is earned, it is awarded as far as I look at it, kind of like PFP Champion. To me it doesn't hold anything significant, especially since GoldenBoy owns it. Canelo will probably always be Ring champ. Tyson Fury still being champ makes it a joke.

Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
As I understand it, Tyson had 30 days after AJ vs Klitschko to fight in order to retain the Ring belt.
That date is Monday. So, he will lose the belt this coming week.

Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
Oscar De La Hoya owns Ring Magazine... That's why they keep Canelo there... They kept Fury there so long so they could claim their judgments are "nuanced" and depended on the situation -- in explaining why Canelo was their Middleweight Champion. "For instance, we still have Fury..."danundisputed wrote:Hi,

I don't recall the Ring Magazine policy, but Fury is still the lineal champ. W Klitschko did most to earn that title after Lewis, Fury took it from him.
Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
i guess so. i guess hes like the 'champ in recess' until he comes back or gives up on coming back.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Respectable opponents are not a requirement. The ring has no authority in the sport. It's a magazine belt, like a toy in a box of cereal.fanman wrote:i guess so. i guess hes like the 'champ in recess' until he comes back or gives up on coming back.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Respectable opponents are not a requirement. Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
Thanks to Scott for the shared information, will see when the Ring Mag officially puts the title vacant in its ratings.
The lineal title is still confusing me, i understand its the man who beats the man, and he didn't lose the title in the ring.
I guess if the champ retires the title turns vacant. Did Fury officially retire? I guess not.
Those 2 sources are confusing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyson_Fury
It says: He has held the Ring magazine heavyweight title since 2015, after defeating long-reigning world champion Wladimir Klitschko.
He has held which means he doesnt anymore, ok - Ring Magazine says different.
At the lineal title reign it says there:
Lineal heavyweight champion
28 November 2015 – 12 October 2016
Vacated
BS says this
http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/achamp.htm
Tyson Fury 2015-2015, stripped, retired
? How was he stripped of that title in the first place, and is he retired?
Great confusion is looking for clear answers, looking forward to them!

He has not retired but seems eager to return to the ring as soon as the BBBC returns his boxing licence.
As you may know his licence has been suspended pending the outcome of the UKAD/VADA enquiry - which has apparently been delayed until October.
I am interested to see what happens with the 'Ring' belt. Please let us know if you hear anything further.
Re: Tyson Fury still Ring Magazine Champion?
Given his mental health situation and weird suspension, I wonder if they've given him some leniency.
