I hope Jacobs is getting paid extremely well because he will never be the same after the beating he is going to get.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
I'm curious to see how much Jacobs will earn for this bout.
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
Let's see what PPV numbers Golovkin does (in regards to this narrative of him being a big draw). Let's see if he can match /surpass Canelo's numbers against Liam Smith who had never fought on American television before and was literally unknown to even a good amount of actual "hardcore" fans - unless you're from the UK.
The numbers he does against Jacobs are going to be used as a barometer to the final offer he gets from Canelo's camp.

Canelo is a significantly bigger draw....you should know that already. I doubt GGG matches or surpasses Canelo's numbers. Is part of you just a tad upset that GGG didnt have to drop his belt, as you continually predicted?lefty wrote:Let's see what PPV numbers Golovkin does (in regards to this narrative of him being a big draw). Really good fight this, and I'm glad it finally got made.

Had to push GGG back to make Canelo look like less of a duck.
Guess Haymon isn't against his fighters on HBO.
May the best man win.
I hope it's Jacobs just to make the boxing world feel stupid.
I hope Canelo fights Charlo and loses too.

Dude has drawn well in several locations. Just because people won't shell out $60 to watch him on ppv doesn't mean he is not a draw.lefty wrote:Let's see what PPV numbers Golovkin does (in regards to this narrative of him being a big draw). I won't believe it till I see it. Jacobs knows deep inside him that he is pretty chiny and he has to fight one of the savagest punchers in the sport.

Upset? Yeah I'm devastated. Man- me being wrong on a boxing prediction is akin to a close relative passing awaycrusader wrote:Canelo is a significantly bigger draw....you should know that already. I hope I am wrong, but think GGG takes Jacobs out inside of 5 rounds.
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
Nice!
GGG finally gets a big name win on his title defense ledger and takes out what would arguably be his best opponent to date.

Yep, these are the top two at 160 right now; I'm really glad they could get this one done, regardless of whether it does fewer buys than Canelo's fights.gilgamesh wrote:Nice!

What do people think Danny's best approach is? Cautiously box and move, look to get GGG's respect with some aggression? It's my belief that fighters generally do better when they're aggressive with GGG, as he doesn't counter much and his offense shuts down when he's on the backfoot. He also thrives from mid-range, but doesn't seem to do nearly as well on the inside (Jacobs isn't really a close-up guy either though). Danny certainly has offensive tools, although I think he's a bit chinny and I'm not sure how much he can take in a fire fight.
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
I think Danny's best approach would be to surprise Golovkin and take the fight right to him as if he's the guy on the 20 fight knockout streak and try to get Golovkin's respect early.
He doesn't necessarily have to stay in a full blown attack mode, but I think he'd be wise to attack Golovkin with everything he's got relatively early in the fight just to buzz him or get his attention, and then maybe pick his spots so he doesn't get countered after GGG gets more settled.
I think the early all out assault though is his best bet.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
I think Jacobs would have to take it a step further and score a early KO. Don't see Jacobs lasting longer than 5 or 6 rounds. For that matter don't see Jacobs having much success at all.gilgamesh wrote:I think Danny's best approach would be to surprise Golovkin and take the fight right to him as if he's the guy on the 20 fight knockout streak and try to get Golovkin's respect early.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
While it may seem counterintuative, I actually think taking the fight to GGG could make him less dangerous. He rarely punches on the backfoot, and when opponents throw in combo he often just covers up rather than trying to punch with them. Some people suggested that Brook's movement gave him issues, but Brook had nearly all his success when he let his hands go in bunches and in the process stopped GGG's stalking attack.
When Brook was being flightly he had more trouble, which included being badly jarred against the ropes in the first. It was similar in the Monroe fight, as Willie lost the first two and got dropped against the ropes when he tried boxing early on, only to have some success when he came forward more and let his punches go in close.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
It matters in relation to how much him and his team want for fighting Canelo. If he's doing something like 150k PPV buys against Jacobs- he can't really expect a $50 million or something ridiculous of that nature payday to fight Canelo. He's gonna have to drop his demands and his fans need to be reasonable as to what they demand he should get.jockpunk wrote:Dude has drawn well in several locations. Is he expecting $50 million?
Canelo is a bigger draw, and pretty much all of us know it, but that doesn't mean that any offer is acceptable.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
Great fight. Technically they both the best Middleweights atm. Should be for the vacant lineal title, that Canelo should not have anymore since he moved to 154 like a pu$$.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
Golovkin will not fight Jacobs like he fought Brook or Monroe. He will fight him like he fought Lemieux. If Jacobs tries to take it to Golovkin, he will be eating jabs and will soon lose any desire to attack.
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
Jacobs will be on the back foot trying to pot shot him with fast shots for the first few rounds. no more than one or two punches at a time and then change angles and back off. GGG will eventually corner him and do body work slowing him down. Eventually Jacobs will slow and get caught and its lights out.
