Just had cause to watch the British heavyweight title fight from 1972 on YouTube between Jack Bodell and Danny McAlinden.
In the second round Bodell was well in the way to being stopped however when the ending came Bodell had got to his feet and the referee seemed about to allow the bout to continue when about 30 McAlinden supporters entered the ring to celebrate. As they all jumped about congratulating McAlinden the referee was still trying to separate both boxers and had his outstretched arms between the boxers. It seems from the film that the referee eventually gave up and the bout came to an end.
Have a look. What should have been the decision?
In my opinion McAlinden should have been disqualified.

I dunno, presumably it'd be a no contest if the referee couldn't restore order? It would be a bit harsh to disqualify a boxer because his fans jump into the ring (although obviously it's a different story if his corner/promoter jump in). How would you even know which boxer the fans were supporting? It's not like the crowd often wear replica kits like a football match.
