Usyk is the fighter of the year !

Post by ValMar »

I have no dillema. Usyk is the fighter of the year - clear victories, without judge's help. :TU:

Lomachenko is a great champion, too...But, you can not compare competition at 130 and 200...

1. Ward
2. Frampton
3. Lomassiah
4. Pac
5. TCraw

Usyk lands somewhere in the 6-10 range.

Not for nothing, but Joe Smiths two big underdog wins should land him somewhere in the top 5 list for fighter of the year, at least to me...

Good point but I would put him in the Usyk 6-10 grouping.

I can not agree with you. Pac is/was a genuine champion, but what has he done this year ? Ward's victory over Kovalev is very, very questionable - I can not call it a robbery like majority of boxing fans, but it was very, very close. Crawford and Lomachenko have deserved position in the top 5, surely.
I am not convinced about Frampton - not so strong competition...

Agree to disagree. I could possibly see Pac falling out of the top 5. Hitman Jr probably deserves number 4. A coin toss to determine whether Usyk or Smith squeeze into # 5 would suffice.

Frampton beat two undefeated champions in two different weight classes. What part of that do you not understand?

I have not intended this, but I will attempt to make my top 10 list for 2016 :
1. Usyk
2. Crawford
3. Lomachenko
4. Gonzalez
5. Golovkin
6. Joshua
7. Canelo
8. Thurman
9. Spence
10. Parker

Are you combining your fighter of the year list with your P4P list?

I have to repeat, I respect (and like) Loma and Gonzalez, but competition in the divisions bellow 140 is pretty weak (it is my point of view, and I don't want to convince anybody about that).

No ! You can see I haven't put Ward and Kovalev, both of them have to be on any p4p list.

I am unbiased boxing fan, and I am rooting for good, competitive fights. I don' care for boxer's race/ethnicity/nationality. Every normal boxing fan knows that Ward and Kovalev belong to the top 10 p4p list. There is no need for debate about that, it is quite obvious.

Are we talking about the guy who fought yesterday and fans suddenly started chanting "GGG", as the fight was boring ?

he wasn't the underdog against a 51 yr old man who's been out of the ring for a long time, no matter how good he's been.

Usyk is terrific. Several big wins. Frampton two huge wins. Really shouldn't forget Abner Mares. One fight. But what a performance. Nicest guy I know in the business too. Humble. Good dad/husband. What an amazing performance he gave. Kovalev, Ward and Loma certainly deserve mention. No heavies in my book. Big fights didn't happen there. GGG maybe the most talented but didn't face anyone huge this year. Which not be his fault but not my fighter of the year.

6-4 for Smith was pretty tight, a big punching 27yr old v a 51 yr old man who looked every year of it at the weigh in.
