Hopkins has no regrets
Here are some post fight quotes.
http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/bernard ... ets-374439
Oscar De La Hoya: “First of all I’m happy to say Bernard is OK. This isn’t the way we want to end his career but the most important thing is he’s OK…Bernard you have had a great career.”
Bernard Hopkins: “I wasn’t thinking of the 20 seconds (to get back into the ring) but my right ankle. I twisted it. The Commission asked me how I was, but that’s all I remember. They said I hit my head.
“I knew he can punch, but as far as chin and body shots, I think the momentum was clearly playing out. Everybody that has followed my career knows what I am about, that this is how my fighting style has been.
“I don’t complain. It is what it is. Am I comfortable with it? No. Things unfortunately happen.
“I’m really serious about this. Golden Boy, my family, and HBO. Win, lose or draw or controversy and that’s it. I will be 52 in January and this is the fight that I wanted. A meaningful fight, not a cherry pick. Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way I wanted it. I have no regrets.”
Joe Smith Jr: “I just want to say thanks to Bernard Hopkins, a true champion, and my team. All this hard work I put in in the gym paid. I’m happy we got the win and I’m looking forward to the next fight.
“I was prepared for everything he had. Surprised that he was still fast and prepared to stay out of the way…when I had him on the ropes I landed a clean shot. I saw him falling down and I just wanted to keep my hands going.”
“It’s hard but it was my coming out party. I have to improve my future and I can’t regret that.”
Joe DeGuardia (Smith’s promoter): We’re very pleased with this win. It’s been an honor and we applaud Bernard Hopkins. You saw tonight that Bernard went out the way he wanted. We believe we have the future!”

It was a typical Hopkins fight. Crying like a big baby. Something goes wrong. Never lost inside the distance until yesterday.watsupdoc87 wrote:A fitting end. He lost to a white boy. Again

Re: Hopkins has no regrets
It's just a styles thing to me. Briggs is slow, and I think Hopkins would be able to avoid most of his big shots and outbox him. I could be wrong, but I could see Hopkins outboxing Briggs.asdfjkl wrote:It's funny how retarded you are.gilgamesh wrote:Yeah it is funny that Briggs is that shot ain't itasdfjkl wrote:ROFL
Briggs isn't going to get another significant win in his career, I can guarantee you that.

He'll be back!
He'll either have a rubber match with Roy Jones Jr for the Golden Zimmer Frame Title, or he'll fight Toney at catch (fat)weight for World Nursing Home Championship!

Re: Hopkins has no regrets
How do you twist your ankle falling out the ring? Does Smith hit THAT hard? He hit Hopkins in the head and manage to twist his ankle? lol
Re: Hopkins has no regrets
Hopkins needed another excuse as to why he couldn't sprint up the steps and get back into the ring. An ankle twist fills the bill. "Oh my ankle"
