Floyd Mayweather ranked No. 34 (tied with Jessica Alba) in Forbes 2016 look at the 40 Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 with a net worth of $340 million. Mayweather, who turns 40 in February, makes the cut for the first time in the annual list. He is sandwiched between NBA legend Kobe Bryant and Tom Preston-Werner, co-founder of online platform GitHub.
Mayweather's fortune was built on 12 straight blockbuster payouts of at least $25 million since he became the biggest pay-per-view star in the sport after his 2007 split decision win over Oscar De La Hoya. That fight generated 2.5 million PPV buys, the most in the history of the sport to that point. Money Mayweather’s earnings got an added boost through his creation of Mayweather Promotions in 2007. The move allowed Mayweather to cut out the middleman and keep both the boxing and promotion fees for his fights.
His biggest payday came in May 2015 for his bout against Manny Pacquiao, which was six years in the making. The much-hyped fight largely disappointed the paying audience, but it set multiple boxing records, including PPV buys (4.6 million), total gate ($73 million) and sponsorships ($13 million). The fight grossed more than $600 million and was the highest-grossing, single-day sporting event ever. Mayweather's take: $240 million.

The big money is why Pacquiao hid his rotator cuff tear from everybody.. He signed all his sparring partners to non-disclosure agreements, and shut out the media and fans for his last 4 weeks of training camp... The prognosis was that his shoulder needed immediate surgery and he'd be out of Boxing for 9 months to a year... So he shut everybody up and stopped sparring.. Said he was working on a secret strategy, and informed the commission that he needed pain killer injections in his shoulder -- but that he was "100% capable of fighting and winning."
The NSAC denied him the allowable injections because the forms weren't filled out properly detailing the precise need for the injections.. Pacquiao wouldn't have fought if the payday was 20 million... For 200 million he was going to fight if his arm fell off... Financially the fight did better than expected... Fans were expecting Leonard-Duran 1... They got Hopkins-Allen III... It destroyed PPV for a while.
