Was his career free throw stats equally impressive? Some say that Wilt wasn't secure enough about his own sexuality to go "granny style" with his free throws, a technique that surely would have catapulted his percentage into the mid fifties.

But they were no longer attached to his mouth, not after Clyde had his way with him. It is said that the drubbing he took from big Clyde stayed with Wilt for the rest of his life. Imagine what Marciano would have done to him?

Also, on the alleged "contract" of '71. Since Ali had no title at that time, would it have been the for inaugural WBO title?

Kalan, as you well know the Howard Cosell interview you keep posting with Ali, Chamberlain and the alleged "contract" was in March 1967. A few days after this TV event the unbeaten Ali defended his world title against Zora Folley. The following month in April 1967 Ali's refused induction into the army and had his title and boxing licence removed. He stayed in exile for 3.5 years.

There was another fight planned in 1971 after Ali returned to boxing however Ali got beat by Frazier. He wasn't a world champ anymore so any fight with Chamberlain would've been an exhibition anyway. Where is the contract that Ali allegedly refused to sign in 1971 as all the evidence says Chamberlain didn't sign anything and walked out the press conference when Ali started shouting 'timbeeeer'.

These two incidents happened 4 years apart but seem to be getting rolled into one.
It wouldn't matter if Ali accepted being drafted into the armed forces -- or rejected it as he did and got stripped of the title... He ALREADY punked out... He refused to sign the contract to fight Chamberlain after appearing with Chamberlain on TV... scamming the public... "I accept your challenge" and building the fight up as it was going to be an actual event -- a Super Fight between the Heavyweight Champion and the greatest athlete of all time in any sport... Since Ali steadily and consistently refused to sign the negotiated contract ... the fight was never going to happen in a million years.

I see. So he punked out then they went through the whole process again 4 years later, that makes sense. So who punked out in 1971?

The contract was only valid if Ali beat Frazier and retained the Heavyweight Championship. Ali punked out by getting beaten up, decked hard, and losing.

So Muhammad Ali deliberately lost the biggest fight of his life & a chance to regain his titles that were unjustly taken away from him to avoid fighting a glorified exhibition against a gangly bastketballer? :oo

As John McEnroe would say, "you cannot be serious?"

I'm not saying Ali DELIBERATELY lost to a fat little pudgy shorty like Frazier... who weighed only 205, and had short arms and was wide open for everything, as the big, strong, powerful George Foreman later proved when he blew little Smokin' out in only 2 rounds... Ali tried hard to beat the little tyke, but he just didn't have the firepower to compete that well at that time, apparently... In the back of Ali's mind might have been the idea that if he won the fight, there was a valid contract out there for him to meet Chamberlain...

Psychological factors can work insipidly on your brain, because Ali had no trouble beating Frazier when there was no Chamberlain fight in the offing. However, with Ali's history of punking out on Wilt Chamberlain fights -- if he won, I'm sure he would have found another way out of the fight.

The Chanberlain fight in 1971 had nothing to do with Ali being a title holder or not, the press conference that Ali was calling timber was after that defeat, in fact there is a poster advertising the fight with Chamberlain. Chamberlain refused to sign the fight and signed a new contract with his basketball team.

That is total BS... Chamberlain wanted to be Heavyweight Champion and Ali needed to retain the title v Frazier... That was written directly into the contract.

How is it BS if that's what happened, are you denying the press conference was after Ali lost? Are you denying a poster was produced? Are you denying they held a press conference and Ali yelled timber?

A complete novice would never be allowed to fight for a world title in their debut so stop talking nonsense.

This just in!

I like the above factoiding! This could be the troo fax! We'll never know fer sure....id'll be a misteree FOR ALL TIMES!
Butt I'll betcha by golly wow, that it jez mite bee sew!!

With all that said...just what was the Rock's excuse for not facing Chamberlain?.....and let's not get into the "age" thing....as you've taught us all, those "swan song" fights are just as meaningful as a fighters Prime, when it comes to getting down to the nitty gritty. If he could fight Ali via Computer, surely he could've gloved up for real to face Wilt.

MANY a world champions fought novices -- and some who were making their pro debut, so don't talk like an ignorant jackass... Commissions let just about anybody fight just about anybody... When it comes to raw novices, many boxers have been in the business of lining them up and punching them out... Sean O'Grady was one who fought guys making their pro debut when he had over 50 pro fights.

So name some, the criteria is they had zero amateur or pro fights and fought for a world title in their debut.

And Wilt Chamberlain wasn't some guy with 2-left feet from Kokomo trying to get rent money... He was the world's greatest athlete who had the world's greatest trainer and matchmaker, Cus D'Amato, lined up to to teach him how to box for 6 months and line up the sparring partners he needed... D'Amato was the brains behind the title drives of Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson -- who became Heavyweight Champions at 21 and 20.

Billionaire Jack Kent Cooke was fronting the training camp and expenses... He knew it would be great for the Lakers if Chamberlain knocked Ali stiff and won the Heavyweight Title... Then Wilt could abandon the title undefeated and continue his Basketball career -- but nobody could ever take that away from him.

Are you still denying that the press conference for the fight was after Ali lost and a poster was produced? All it needed was Wilts signature and he bottled it. Timber.

This makes no sense. If he wanted to be champion he should have negotiated with Frazier. It sounds to me like Wilt was afraid of Frazier after fotc.

Basically Kalan didn't realise the footage of Ali and Chamberlain was from 1967 and the other press pics were from 1971. He's in a right pickle. Just waiting for the list of complete novices who fought for a world title in their debut.

Conor McGregor never had a boxing match... He got a license in case his proposed fight with Mayweather got through negotiations with Dana White etc. The commission certainly wouldn't hold it up.. They approved his fight with Berto who lost 3 his previous 6, when there were much tougher Welterweights available for Mayweather to fight. I think a famous Author who never had a fight fought Jack Johnson in a World Title Fight. I'll have to check that out. I'm sure Jeffries, Corbett, and Fitzsimmons fought raw novices and Patterson fought a guy making his pro debut.. Do commissions sanction fights that don't make any sense??? ... Obviously they do and you know it... Joe Louis fought a raw novice who had no ability for the Heavyweight Title -- and so did many others..

Unlike those cannon fodder fights, Chamberlain-Ali made a lot of sense... The guy in the most danger of getting hurt in the Ali-Chamberlain fight was Ali... Everybody knew it and that's why the fight was promoted and the public interest was so big... Chamberlain was so big, tall, long, athletic, fast, strong, and powerful that nobody in their right mind would want to step into a ring against him if he had 6 months of boxing lessons and sparring.
