but why werent there never serious talks of pacquiao against canelo, would do much more sense, both action packed, both world class. to be honest even now old pac would pose a lot of problems against flat footed al. yes, canelo can punch. but did he ever touched lara, who can move. would he catch pac, who has speedy gonzales kind of footspeed, even now
call me crazy, at 154 i would have pac as the winner, now.
Pac had a miserable time with margarito. Even though he beat the crap out of him, he was supposedly pissing blood for days after the fight. I don't think he wants to go through that again. Canelo is bigger than margarito so the size difference would simply be too much.
The Margarito fight was at a catch-weight of 150 Margarito only rehydrated to about 165.
Canelo would never be able to make 150. He struggles to make 154 and re-hydrates to a cruiserweight.
This would be suicide for Manny. If somebody ever sanctioned that fight they should be in jail.

Manny would have been favorite to beat Canelo.
I'd definitely put my money on THAT version of Manny beating any version of Canelo at 154. But current, faded version has no chance

Meh i'd still pick Pacquaio. He's faught 2 of the best Welters this year and barely lost a round. What's Canelo done? Beat Smith? Even his fight Cotto was close, Pacquaio's a far superior fighter, only the size & strength makes it interesting.
-Arum and DLH don't have an easy time working together. They might be able to put aside their differences for the right fight, but their relationship is working against it.
-Alvarez is ridiculously bigger than Pacquiao, as others have mentioned. He is easily quite bigger than Margarito on fight night, and also way better than Margarito p4p. Pacquiao is small as hell, as far as welterweights go. Mayweather fought Alvarez, and props to him for that. But Alvarez is now a few pounds heavier now, and from age 23 to 26, he has improved in skill.
-This fight could potentially hand Pacquiao the final loss of his career. It should be obvious that Arum wants that loss to be against an in-house fighter if possible, and ideally a younger one. Reason being (most should understand this already) that Pacquiao's conqueror should gain an elevated profile and have more drawing power for the remainder of his career (like we have seen in the past for some of the conquerors of JCC, Whitaker, DLH, and Mosley). I suppose he will first give Horn a shot, and if Horn gets the win, then that is fortunate. But if Horn can't do it, then Arum will probably seek to match a 39 to 40-year-old Pacquiao against Vanes Martirosyan or Terence Crawford.
Btw, I certainly recognize the revenue-generating potential in Alvarez - Pacquiao, and have theorized the fight myself. But Arum needs an incentive to make this fight. If I were Arum, I would be asking for a stipulation that if Alvarez wins, then Arum gets 3ish points on Alvarez's contract. Otherwise, Arum has no reason to self-destruct his own empire and play kingmaker to DLH's.

That is a really good question. I don't even think that i've considered this matchup in my mind at all. Maybe it's because TR and Golden Boy were at odds for so long. It's a very interest matchup stylistically. I think that i'd take Manny because I think that he could avoid Canelo's power and pot shot him all night long. A better fight would be between Bob and Oscar over money though. They would never agree to splits.
