the natural progression must be Wach, the 3rd best Polish HW

A couple years and he'll have worked down the list to Kolodziej and Sosnowski
Wach would be too much of a risk, he's bigger, stronger and has more chin. The only thing he's worse at is speed.

I for one am shocked to see Wilders name being linked to such a soft opponent. Wilder has proven time and again that he is ready, willing, and able to fight the very best.

:OhYes:

But seriously I'm surprised his small legion of jock swingers aren't in here yet defending this fight:

Gotta have one gimme to shake the rust, gotta test out his recovered injury, nothing wrong with staying busy, blah blah blah.

The WBC is protecting all of Al Haymon's Champions. Adonis Stevenson and Danny Garcia are getting the same allowance for crappy defenses.

In fairness they didn't sanction Garcias last fight or the Salka one.

Yeah, but they didn't strip him of the title did they?

The only reason I'm ok with this fight is because Wilder is coming off of a bad injury. But this is the last one. Next fight MUST be unification.

Do these promoters have no shame at all? Are Wlad and AJ the only HWs with any balls whatsoever?

I hope Showtime refuses to televise this crap.

It's safe to say that everyone is frustrated and have lost patience with Wilder's opposition. I agree with it for the most part, but some of the criticisms, however, are a bit exaggerated. He will have been champ for 2 years in January of 2017. (Some think it has been longer) To date Wilder has had 4 voluntary defenses. The first was after breaking his hand in the Stiverne fight. (Molina) The second was in September, (Duhaupas) Povetkin said at the time he would not take a fight before Wilder, but did in November and suffered a cut.

January last year he originally wanted to fight Povetkin, but due to the injury from Povetkin. He took a voluntary defense - his 3rd (Szpilka)in the place of that fight. The Povetkin fight was delayed to May, and Wilder took his 4th voluntary defense, (Areola)since Povetkin didn't pass the test. Wilder suffered another broken hand and torn bicep muscle, and has been out since.

Now taking on Wawrzyk for a tune up and to shake ring rust off, I understand it. I am as frustrated as most because I want to see him against the top heavyweights.

If after this fight he fights anyone not in the top 10, his stock will plummet, and I will be his worst critic.

True. Not sure I can compete with all the Wilder hate on this forum.
When you put things in perspective, Wilder has had two voluntary defenses coming back due to injuries, and two due to Povetkin not being able or allowed to compete. (Cut and failing the test)

I have defended Wilder as much as anyone.
I do not agree with Wawrzyk as an oponent.
If Wilder wants to be considered tge real champ he needs to face a decent contender instead.
Pulev, Ortiz, whyte or even Ruiz would all be more suitable and would shut up most of his critics.
Enough with the fringe contenders. It's time to step it up

I like Wilder. He's gotten some tough breaks when it comes to stepping up. Povetkin fell through, and people blame Wilder. Wasn't Wilder and Fury going to fight at one point?

Is Wilder flat out ducking fighters?

Typical Al Haymon BS... Since Mayweather made so much money he thinks the "O" is the whole deal. It's not working for Wilder, or the fans.

Don't worry, Wawrzyk - ranked #29 - won't be failing Doc Goodman's Las Vegas drug test.

Realistically. Wilder has got size and strength over just about everyone in the division. The only comparable fighter is Joshua. It's really sad to see Wilder fighting way below level opposition. Wilder should be competing at the elite level. Nothing more nothing less. Injuries or not this is complete B.S.

I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a Wilder fan, but this Wawrzyk bout is even tough for me to swallow. Given the unique set of circumstances with what were to be his mandatory title defenses though, I'm willing to give him a break.
I'm fairly confident that had he come out of the Arreola bout uninjured then, we'd be seeing a better caliber of opponent than the undeserving Pole, but as long as Wilder dispatches of him pretty quickly with no issues & then schedules a (much) more serious title defense vs whomever the 'BC will deem as his mandatory soon after ( by May, hopefully ) then I don't mind him using Wawrzyk as a crash test dummy to see how his surgically repaired hand & arm hold up.
With Povetkin pissing hot yet again for PEDS, I have to believe that he's run out of excuses & will lose his spot at #1 as well as any claim to a mandatory status that he had. Which leaves Stiverne who hasn't fought in a year when he had to pick himself up off the floor to beat journeyman Derrick Rossy. So, it's hard to see him as the necessary step up for Wilder. Especially since he nearly shut him out the last time they met.
But, unfortunately, being rated #2, Stiverne will likely get the shot.
Which, of course, all the haters will attack Wilder over for fighting a "retread". That's why, personally, I'd rather see #3 Pulev get the opportunity. Hell, at this point, even #7 Gerald Washington would probably make for a better fight than Stiverne.
Even down in the latter half of the top 15 there are some interesting match ups vs the likes of Dillian Whyte, "Baby" Miller & even Rudenko.

Fury showed up in the ring after the Szpilka fight.. they had a few words but at that time, we knew Fury had to take a rematch with Wlad and Wilder had the Povetkin mandatory.
