Surely the BBBofC would not allow this? - what would all those who have been moaning on the MBC thread have to say?

I've got a soft spot for the original WBU. Its a guilty pleasure. Lol. Saw some good fights contested for those trinkets.

I have a soft spot for the belt too. That and the IBO. Not so much the WBF.

Probably because I grew up watching them.

Maccarinelli, Hatton, Jennings :TU:

I always liked the WBU and IBO belts been some right tear ups for them Neary v ward, and haye v Thompson. Sometimes it's the fighter that makes the belt not the other way round. If Eubank for example wins the IBO and then defends it against guys like groves, jack, degale (just theoretically) who's going to say that he isn't a real world champion.

Oh ffs. Just use the European title. Or, get this crazy idea, just make good fights anyway.

According to MBC/BIBA they were to release a statement end of Nov regarding a high court ruling in their favour on ownership of the (WBU) brand.....

Hmmm ... somebody's telling porkies :shame:

'Jon Robinson's former business partner retained ownership of the World Boxing Union (WBU) Limited, which had been dormant for a number of years. This company owns the copyright and trademarks for the World Boxing Union & WBU names. Earlier this month the company won a high court order and cease and desist papers are being served on Don Lewis and Torsten Knille who operates WBUv but uses the name World Boxing Union.

On the matter of WBU on BBBofC shows - Robert Smith had spoken a promoter yesterday and said NO the WBU titles will not be on BBBofC events.'

Was it a BBBofC promoter that spoke to Robert Smith ?

WBU and BIBA/MBC are arguing over who owns 'WBU'
The WBU withdrew recognition of BIBA/MBC recently, though BIBA still put on a contest claiming to be a WBU World Title fight anyway.

Agreed i too think that the WBU & IBO titles do have a place in modern day boxing...
Provided that there is recognition of the titles being a level below "the big four".

If that beinfgunderstood & agreed, we could see some right good fights being made for them (by the fighters outside the top 10).

Certainly having these minor trinkets is tasteful & transparent rather than having all these "International titles" & "intercontinental titles" of which all 4 bodies have one of each in every weight class.

Remaking & reforging the WBU & IBO titles could potentially be like making them gateways where challengers outside the top 10 could regularly meet.

Imagine a Hughie Fury vs David Price for the WBU Heavyweight strap.

Or a Enzo Maccarinelli vs Travis Dickinson bout.

Something along those lines rather than having 4 WBA Champs at the same.

The bbbofc won't have the wbu- they got rid of them once and they have done nothing for the board to want them back
