Absolutley no way would Calzgahe beat a prime Roy Jones. while RJJ was fast, he also carried a punch and never slapped like Joe did.silkov wrote:The Calzaghe of Saturday would have beaten the peak RJJ... I know that the Americans will never swallow that one but I'm sure of it... the way to beat Jones has always been pace and speed and Calzaghe has both... end of story... the truth is many of the Top American fighters are overrated... I think Calzaghe would handle Hopkins and Taylor pretty much with ease... niether would be able to deal with his speed and pace...dr_devious wrote:BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote: agreed
Try telling Jeff Lacy that! As for RJJ, I would pick him at his best to beat Calzaghe but it wouldnt be one-sided, Joe would have given him a great test and might even have beaten him. Id pick Joe to beat Toney and win every round or stop Glen Johnson. I just love the way you American fans are biased against British fighters
If i remember correctly didnt Calzaghe have a bit of trouble with Robin Reid? He also ducked Glencoffe Johnson, avoided a showdown with Clinton Woods and never fought Ottke (Although I dont blame him because Ottke is far more of a cheat than Calzaghe is). It has taken Calzaghe 41 fights to finally beat a top fighter and now everyone thinks he is HOF material and could beat men like Toney and RJJ!
Nigel Benn was far better than Calzaghe was, same with Eubank and Waton. Dont compare Calzaghe with real fighters like RJJ, Toney, Benn etc and also people should stop saying he is the no.1 British fighter because Britain still has the great Hatton who I think has a hell of a chance to beat Mayweather.
