Of the Brits I have only seen Taylor once but was mighty impressed. Selby I like but I think his style would come under interesting scrutiny by a tough top level mexican-type style.

Ryan Burnett.
But I think Katie Taylor will make a big splash in the female world boxing scene.

Surely as this point CEJ is way past the point of being a contender?Rexob wrote:Obviously Eubank jr.
It would be more appropiate to categorise him as a top 10 guy.

Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
Anthony Yarde looks scarily heavy handed,if he can take it like he dishes it out,his power alone looks like it will take him to the top,I know its very early days and he hasn't beat anyone yet,but just the way his power looks, its frightening
Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
I read an article that says yarde can make super middleweight if he wanted? Wouldn't have thought so myself like, in all honesty I think Andrew Selby may be most successful boxer coming through but I just find him boring. Worldwide I think that Errol spence is the man. That much so that kell brook is avoiding him like nobody business
Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
I think the jury is out on Errol Spence. He has ability and power and is good to watch but I wonder if he is the full package
I think if he faced everyone in that 147lb division there's a good chance he loses to a couple of them.
I'd give Brook the edge against him.
I prefer Terrence Crawford but the slight difference in size and power might make that a very close fight
Thurman has shown that he is more than just a banger and can box too, I'd lean towards him in a fight with Spence right now
And I still wouldn't write off guys like Pacquiao and Bradley
Maybe he beats them all, but I think he lack some of the more subtle traits he might need and I don't think he can continue walking through guys as he has.
Until proven otherwise, I've got him sitting around the Danny Garcia level, I think he might get found out when he steps beyond that

Beterbiev for me.
Destroying decent guys, perfect KO record, but far from 'just' a puncher.

U.K. Has to be Josh Taylor but maybe I'm a little bias?
World? Not 100% sure. Does Spence still count as a prospect? Oscar Valdez?

I always worry about being bias, probably too much actually, to the point where I'm probably too harsh on my favorite because I'm too intent on not being bias,as much as I love boxing I would never claim to understand and know it inside out,I score all the big fights and try predict them beforehand, some Im right, some I'm wrong, seeing as its only 50/50 that's nothing to write home about,a lot of the time I'd like to think I'm in the majority when it comes down to my opinion AFTER a fight, but also I've had some "bad" cards when I've been in the vast minority, but as I say,I've never claimed to be a guru,I call it as I see it then and its 100%honest and no way biasStuarty30 wrote:U.K. Has to be Josh Taylor but maybe I'm a little bias?

I'll always back a Brit, if its a domestic I'll go for the Scot but in all honesty and without caring about getting ahead of myself, I think Taylor can me the most talented Scottish boxer ever, because of the politics and ABCs he probably won't get the rose tinted afterthoughts of Buchanan or Lynch but as for talent, ability, longevity and dedication I'm gonna Bea bit silly and predict he'll be the best ever from Scotland, we've had some good fighters since I've been a fan but Burns,Harrison or even Arthur never had Taylor's potential
Genuine talent
Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
Couldn't agree more mate. I'm a massive fan and have been since the amateurs. I was desperate for him to turn pro after the Olympics. He's chose the correct time and a good team/trainer so it looks as if he's got a good head on his shoulders unlike Arthur and Harrison! Me and yourself have bigged him up for a while on here so I hope we're right or we're gonna look a right pair of testicleshandsofstone wrote:I always worry about being bias, probably too much actually, to the point where I'm probably too harsh on my favorite because I'm too intent on not being bias,as much as I love boxing I would never claim to understand and know it inside out,I score all the big fights and try predict them beforehand, some Im right, some I'm wrong, seeing as its only 50/50 that's nothing to write home about,a lot of the time I'd like to think I'm in the majority when it comes down to my opinion AFTER a fight, but also I've had some "bad" cards when I've been in the vast minority, but as I say,I've never claimed to be a guru,I call it as I see it then and its 100%honest and no way biasStuarty30 wrote:U.K. Has to be Josh Taylor but maybe I'm a little bias?

Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
I was just about to say that Stu,both of us have been banging his drum since he turned over, I'm glad he's proving us right,I think his style would give Burns kittens but Ricky has no quit so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt,Taylor for me though looks like he has more than your average scottish boxer, not just tough, durable with a warrior spirit that we love, he has class and proper star potential, he'll never get the adulation Andy Murray receives because he's a boxer but if he fulfils his potential with some good luck he'll become a major player on the world scene which Harrison and Arthur couldn't do,so if Josh has Burns's drive he could def have his success because even now its safe to say he's far more talentedStuarty30 wrote:Couldn't agree more mate. In saying all that Burns must have the biggest heart in British boxing history, defo top 5 ay?
Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
Aye no doubt mate. Burns has bags of heart. You can't teach that! I'd still fancy Taylor on points though right now! Smashing fight if they make it but a win catapults Taylor on to the world scene and as good as he is he needs time so it could end up being a bad move lol. Sink or swim. McGuigan seems keen to fast track him though so who knows?handsofstone wrote:I was just about to say that Stu,both of us have been banging his drum since he turned over, I'm glad he's proving us right,I think his style would give Burns kittens but Ricky has no quit so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt,Taylor for me though looks like he has more than your average scottish boxer, not just tough, durable with a warrior spirit that we love, he has class and proper star potential, he'll never get the adulation Andy Murray receives because he's a boxer but if he fulfils his potential with some good luck he'll become a major player on the world scene which Harrison and Arthur couldn't do,so if Josh has Burns's drive he could def have his success because even now its safe to say he's far more talentedStuarty30 wrote:Couldn't agree more mate. Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
Once someone has won a British title I can't class them as a prospect. Someone like Anthony Yarde is a prospect to me. Whilst Burnett and Josh Taylor who are mentioned in this thread to me are not prospects.
Re: Best prospect in British/world boxing.
Watched a bit more of Ryan Burnett, Josh Taylor and Anthony Yarde last night and I'm impressed with what I saw of each of them. More so the latter 2, both a joy to watch.
However I think that's largely down to power and that's why I'm more inclined to appreciate Burnett more and think his route is probably the easier one to plot.
He's a young age and is getting the rounds, as long as they keep him progressing along nicely, there's a few good challenges domestically in the likes of Hall, Bulter and Satchel, none a given for Ryan at this stage. And of course we have 2 world champions, although I think that's a good few fights away
How do you progress Taylor and Yarde when they're bowling over everyone you put in front of them?
It's the same problem you have with the likes of Callum Smith. If you leave him at a lower level or progress slowly, he doesn't get the rounds and learns little.
But the power they hold can often mask flaws and they might reach a level where power doesn't do it and they haven't honed their skills because they can always rely on the big guns, it's a fine line knowing where that level is.
I don't know and I can't see very much they do wrong just now, thankfully I don't have to manage their careers, just enjoy watching them
They both look to be talented as well as heavy handed but we'll see how they go as they go up the levels

I like the look of what I've seen of this Valdez fella. Not a prospect but a good young champion and growing still to do.
I'd seen him once on an undercard I'm sure, but I sat and went through his recent bouts a couple weeks ago and he looks a threat. See's himself in the Barrera/Marquez mould they reckon and he's a tidy boxer with a good dig on him. Be interesting times for Frampton if/when he gets by the LSC rematch and the inevitable round 2 with Quigg
I'm the same with Selby, the lads got undoubted skills but he just looks so damn cock-sure of himself, I find it a bit off putting. It can be something that draws you to a fighter, like Naz. I even don't mind his brothers cockiness. But there's something bugs me about Andrew and I can't put my finger on it, I just want to see him get gubbedJamieM wrote:I read an article that says yarde can make super middleweight if he wanted? I think Jason Quigley has plenty of talent and one to watch out for over the next couple of years.

UK: Gamal Yafai for me, really like the look of him.
World: CEJ (He is clearly above the domestic scene now and expect him to go on and have a great career)

Followed Quigley for a little while, he holds wins over Fowler & Ogogo in the amateurs - certainly a talent.ScottDetonator wrote:I think Jason Quigley has plenty of talent and one to watch out for over the next couple of years.
Conducting his business over in the states, so great that he's getting good sparring in the yank gyms but he won't be building a name over here.

Yarde for me, seen him progress over the last few years at the Peacock & working his corner, he is the real thing, seriously talented, fantastic work ethic, power, chin & brains.
